I have my new 14" Tegu in a 40 gall breeder tank and can't seem to get the temps right!!!! HELP!!!!!!

I have a 100 watt bulb on the basking side but it's only warming up a small area on his basking log. On the other side I have a undertank heating pad but I can't seem to warm up the entire tank.

I purchased a new 120 watt reptisun bulb that's supposd to be good today. It's one of those longer bulb thats for heat and UVB, blah, blah, blah. I also purchased a 150 watt flood light hoping that would heat things up. I have never been so frustrated in my entire life!!!

Should I put the undertank heat pad, hide box and overhead basking light all on the same side? His food and water stuff at the other side?

Help!!!!!

A bit if good news! "Rocket", as I've been calling it due to it's ability to launch out of my hands at very high speeds, ate a whole large pinkie the other day and took a few bites of ground turkey this A.M.!! Yipee!!

Temps are something you just gotta play with till you get it right - You may need to raise the height of the basking platform to achieve optimal basking temps, and if you have screen top on the tank, cover it up as well where you can - heat rises and will escape through the screen, leaving you with cooler temps in the tank - Covering the top will also help to hold humidity as well...

A 40 gall tank is not that big, so why not get an undertank heat mat that goes all the way across it.

At the end of the day, the ambient temp can be around the 85F mark, so anything there or thereabouts will do. As long as he has access to an area of tank that can hit around 110-120F, and this temp can be maintained throughout the day, then he can thermoregulate himself.
