I love the space you have given to them and the idea is great, but i have a few concerns, meant only to be constructive.

The sheet plastic on the walls, there is a good chance that will go pretty quickly, just because they will probably rip it apart, but my biggest concern is for the UVB tube lighting that you have in there. It would be a good idea to shield the bulbs with something like hardwire cloth of some sort, cause one event of tail whipping in the wrong place and those bulbs can shatter, filling the air with tiny glass fragments, among other things.

My two cents hard at work...

yeah, i am paranoid about any of my large lizards climbing, ...or possibly knocking down a lamp-then the house catches fire. i shield all my lighting with 1/4" mesh cloth just in case. but you have to love the great amount of space they have to move in. that's great. good work.

Thanks guys, covering the lights is a good idea, until i get a new MV bulb anyway. As for the plastic though, neither have really shown an interest in climbing, but there is 6-12" of either flooring or tarp before the plastic, and i need it to keep the humidity up. In the other part i have beardies and a uro so i need to keep the humidity down there and the humidity up in the tegu enclosure. It works though! icon_smile.gif

Nice cage!! What kind of vine is that growing in there? Is it surviving the temperatures? I would like to add that to my cage! How old are your tegus? I am beginning to wonder if I really have a red or is it a black & white?? Mine is still young though. Pic's on page 13..in photo gallery..

The vine is a pathos, they are non toxic, well at least for iguanas and water dragons for sure, and they grow pretty fast. Most important though it is low maintance!! thats the thing i look for first. And i'll let you in on a trick. Most people tell you to put plants in the self watering pots but what i find works the best is to fill the bottom of a water tight pot with rocks, about 1'x1' or something, and then put some sand, then fill it with soil. That way you over water it but the water just goes to the bottom where the rocks are, then if you forget to water it for a while there is lots of water in the bottom for the plant to stay alive. It took a lot of dead plants to figer that one out icon_smile.gif

As for your tegu, the reds and b&w's look a lot alike, besides the red, if it has red on it and it was sold as a red then i would say its a red. There are different amounts of red in each individual some are completely full body red while others are only red in parts.

Great idea! very nice setup, I do agree with teh other tho, slightly higher before the tarp would tend to be a good idea, even if u used plexi glass or something for a little way up

I really like the pathos, looks very good in the whole of it, does it fill in like an ivy? Would be great to have a canopy of vines going on for the roof of the cage...
