Well I read the sad story of perfumed soap being bad for a tegu but I had a question about perfume in general.

I am planning to build a large enclosure in our bedroom, but my girlfriend almost daily gets ready in the adjacent bathroom and usually uses a good amount of perfume. Would this be a concern? Thanks in advance for any advice.

long term exposure to phenolic/aromatic compounds could be bad. that's the issue with cedar bedding, etc. i would get rid of the girl.

Any more detailed info than 'long term' there 'might' be an effect? I'd like more solid info. I did have a reef tank up there and always worried but never saw any negative effects. (no lid on the reef tank)

I guess it depends on whether or not she will be spraying it into the tegus airspace - assuming the cage isnt right next to the door where she will be spraying, and is vented through the sides so that the stuff doesnt accidentally drop into the cage, it will probably have dispersed enough by the time it reaches him to be a problem. Unless she uses something really overpowering.

I could find very very little on effects of perfumes and nothing seemed too extreme. I do agree that being in an adjacent room would be better than right next door. Thanks!
