Thanks Teiidae!! I am going to try to double clutch them. Has anyone ever heard of this being done with tegus? _________________ www.tegu.com and www.Varnyard-herps-inc.com

Well, I called Bert and asked him if he has ever known them to double clutch. He said that Argentine tegus start making new eggs after they lay their clutch. He said these eggs will be for the following year. When they come out of hibernation they already have the eggs in them. The eggs start to grow and the male breeds with the female, thus fertilizing the eggs. _________________ www.tegu.com and www.Varnyard-herps-inc.com

I'll take that as they cannot double clutch than in the same year ? And I would assume that these Tegu's already carrying eggs would hatch earlier than Tegu's that are not carrying eggs ? - I guess another question to go along with what I'm thinking would be, at what age do they start producing eggs since my understanding is that they are generally a few years old before reproducing ? You breed them, I just keep them _________________ 1.0.0 Ball Python "Albino"

The way Bert explained it, was that the eggs are in the females before they go into hibernation. Then when they come out of hibernation, the eggs are fertilized by the male and laid by the female. So if that is the case, then my females are now building eggs in their system for a clutch next year. I would assume, if the female does not breed, then the eggs would be absorbed and she would not produce that season. Just a guess on that one.
They are able to reproduce at the age of three. That is the youngest to my knowledge. _________________ www.tegu.com and www.Varnyard-herps-inc.com
