Hey guys!
I'm new to this site and of course I am new to tegus and keeping them. I have kept monitor lizards before (v.exanthematicus and v.niloticus) and I suppose that would give me some kind of general knowledge of care and maintainance of these lizards. Had to give up the monitor lizards because of their size and the fact that I was moving from a house into an appartment.
I might soon recieve 1.1 T.teguixin, gold tegus for anyone not knowing the scientific name.
They are roughly 8 months old and the size of about 50cm, roughly 20". What size of enclosure would I need for these two?
I have an enclosure I could keep them in until I bought a perfect one and it's 120x45x45cm. So it's actually a tiny bit smaller in width than the lizards, do you think they mind? Even if it's just for a few weeks, maybe a month or two. Should I keep them together at all?

Any help here is greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance you guys!
I think this cage size will be fine for now. A general rule for Tegus and required floorspace, is 2 x Tegu Length, for the length of the cage. 1 x Tegu length, for the depth of the cage.. Height is all based on how big the cage is and how you have your heating and lighting set up. This cage that you are proposing is a little slim on depth, but makes up for it, by being a little longer. So i think it will work out just fine for now.
Good Luck on getting them, and watch your fingers _________________ The Jay

Great! That was good news. From what I've read they "require" UVlighting, or at least prefer it.
Just another question, might seem a bit weird but what is the regular cost of these tegus? I am paying 2000SEK, which would be roughly €222, or roughly $250. From what I know it is quite a good price, but it's also interesting to see the differences in prices in different countries.

Okay.. I am no financial expert, and I really hope that I do not offend anyone who may read this, but.... A good price in the USA for a Columbian Tegu is roughly $10 - $30. Anything more than that is a rip off. In a lot of cases, people get suckered into buying them and find out their true nature once they are settled in at home. They are very nervous and flighty, which makes them come across as aggressive. There are always exceptions to the rule, of course, but this is how I have experienced them in my years.
On the other hand, I am not living in EU, so I wouldn't have much of an idea, in the way of supply and demand for any reptile there. So, the amount people are willing to pay could be drastically different than it is here.
Either way, just in case you haven't already, make sure you do some research on Columbian Tegus before bringing them home. If it still turns out that they are what you REALLY want, then shop around. If the ones you found are the best price for the product, then no amount of money should stand in your way, as long as you can afford it.

WOW! 10-30bucks! Holy moley! Well, I guess that kinda makes sence, you guys have them in your country, don't you?
Kinda like Tarantulas, in the US they are insanely expensive, in Sweden it's alright but in Germany, crazy cheap!
I think they are great animals, tegus and monitors are beautiful animals. I just have to cough up lots of money until Saturday.
Also, do you think it's possible to keep these to specimens together?
i keep 2 golden colombians together they don't fight and they have allways been good together but even after a year of handling every day there agressive and are hard to get hold of due to there speed. argentines are better for tameness(T.meriane). _________________ 0.0.2 b/w Argintine Tegu
