I'm sure there must be some members here who have some of these
guys as pets. I have been thinking about adding one of these to my collection and am looking for info, feedback, etc.
Does anyone here breed these or know of availability?
Do these males go through an aggressive stage like some greens?
Feel free to PM me if your response is lengthy as this is an open ended
inquirey.

Thanks! icon_smile.gif

I have a male cyclura lewisi nubila cross from David Blair and a female cyclura cornuta cornuta from RSP...both will be 3 next month
They are hands down the most charming captives I have ever worked with.
I would suggest a male....and I believe RSP in fla do not have hatchlings this year but if they do--they should be available in Oct.
David Blair out in Ca takes deposits on his blue cross eggs...heck he even takes deposits on eggs that he "might" have...so the bles are really in demand..unless someone does not take the animal they waited for all that time--you might be in for a wait list. I believe his rhinos are more readily available...and they are GLORIOUS animals. I wish had I room for 10 more icon_smile.gif

Hello. I got my male rhino when he was a year old Nov. '05. Now he will be two years old this Nov.

When I first got him he was a little snappy and on flighty. The previous owner would 'capture' him when he handled him, which put him in a defensive and submissive posture. Within the first month he would be beggin to be pet. Now he is very tame and loves to ride on my shoulder or watch TV with me. If I'm working at my desk in my room at night he wakes up in his cage and taps on the glass for me to take him out. Then he just sits on my lap and sleeps.

I love my rhino. He's very personable and seeks attention. I bought him from a guy who got him from David Blair (he gave me the birth certificate to prove it). I definately recommend a rhino.

Here's some pics. The first was when I got him in 11/05 and the second was taken about a month ago 8/06. You could see his growth in the pics. He's a pig!

And that's something I forgot to mention. It takes hatchlings a while to calm down. Mine never tried to bite but both were petrified until they attained some size.
And also the whole birthcertificta ething from david blair is awesome--he even sends the egg that it hatched out of/

I am one jealous boy right now Nicole.. I've been an iguana lover since I was little wee, and I've been recently getting more and more caught up with Blues, but I didn't know they were available in the pet trade. I thought they were endangered for some reason.. are they? They're gorgeous animals.. I love the "spikes" on their jaws. Post some pics asap!

The cyclura lewisi that are available (legally) through the pet trade are crossed with cyclura nubila. Some are referred to as "high blue" and go for more money. The color of the parents are taken into consideration as to what the asking price will be for the eggs. Of course some lie and some are sold illegally.
If you raise these crosses in natural sunlight, they become a wonderful shade of blue...and you really cannot tell the difference. Many of the lewisi on grand cayman were natural crosses and it was only uncovered through blood tests...
Go to cyclura.com and check out the site..it's very informative. David Blair's lizards can also be found there under CAPTIVE BRED on the left menu.
