Pretty easy. Make a 2x4 frame, then screw on sheets of plywood. I put my cage on wheels.

Make sure you coat all inside surfaces and joints to make them waterproof, or your cage will rapidly rot down.

We got everything to make this cage from B&Q, bar the pond paint used to seal it.

No, melamine was too expensive to use for this cage (we previously used it for the tegus old cage and the beardie cage) so this one is made out of 1.8cm MDF, coated with a low VOC pond paint to protect the wood. The joints are sealed with silicone I believe. There are more details on teh link in my sig (go to The Tegu and scroll down to Tegu's Cage).

Also do you remember how much wood you purchased and what the lengths were? infact if you could draw and write up some detailed plans that would be a great help thanks.

I posted pictures of my little pal Gifford's enclosure in the "enclosures" section of the site's photo album.

Go to Photo Albums, and in the search bar type "enclosures" which will take you to the enclosure gallery. Not a whole lot there, but a great start.

Mine is a first attempt, but with much inspiration from the great people ( and Tegus, of course ) on this site. It's dimensions are 8'x4'x3', and is made from melamine coated 3/4"MDF and sealed with silicone sealant.

Yup, it included the plexiglas - since the Teg is prone to mood swings, weve never been confident with going with glass. The downside to this is that it is likely to scratch up, but to be fair, since hes gone into the big cage he rarely comes near the doors anymore (whereas in the last cage he used to try and climb the glass a lot and turned it grey with scratches). My boyfriends dad is a builder though so we did get most of the screws etc for free. The plexi was the most expensive thing about the cage, mind you.

The cage was made up of 8x4 sheets of MDF, which was where we really saved the money - our last two cages were built from melamine faced chipboard, which cost a lot more. The back of the cage is a sheet of coated hardboard, rather than MDF - which is literally a couple of pounds per sheet and cuts down costs (and weight!). Its been a year since that cage was built now and I honestly cant remember how many sheets etc it took - it didnt help that we bought it in stages so that we could get the stuff home icon_smile.gif We got everything pretty much from B&Q.

Since it was my boyfriends project, I cant really confidently draw up any plans. I have a set that he drew up, but theyre pretty personal and may be difficult to follow, but if you want I can upload them to my site.

Its just a standard fluorescent light fixture - I dont know how easy they are to find where you are, but most places here sell non-fixed fluorescent light fixtures that are literally just a pair of connectors on wires, and youre expected to buy small clips to fasten to the cage to hold the bulb in place.

cheers Johelian, i won't be needing those plans though the tank is almost complete. its cost me about 100 already and thats without the plexiglass but i have built it out of melemine chipboard. the viv measures 7x2x2 (i lost a foot in length due to my amazing mathe skills lol) and B&Q only sold the melamine in 2ft width. All thats left to be done now is fitting the lights, fitting the plexiglass and silaconing it. my only problem now is ive run out of funds and im gonna have to work even harder to raise them icon_cry.gif

cheers again everyone icon_biggrin.gif
