Hey everyone. My friend gave me a red tegu like a week ago because his mom wouldn't let him keep it. I took it in but it doesn't seem like it's in good condition. His eyes are all messed up and he seems blind. I've been feeding him with a syringe through his mouth with some baby food in it. He doesn't like to take it, but he does.

I don't have any money to bring him to the vet nor am I experienced enough to take care of him.

My friend said that he's been like this for about a month now and he's still alive. He's about 25 or 26" and I'm not sure how old he is.

If anyone can help me out, please send me a PM. I am located in Clearwater, FL (33759).

Thanks everyone

So the tegu is very sick and your user name is LaidtoRest, just something I noticed. Anyway, I can't help you right now, but I'm sure there is some one on the site that may be willing to help, I would give him a good soak or two, offer him some veggies, and a small rat something that won't take him much energy to to take down, also I would suggest getting him a UVB basking spot for the time being if hes doing that bad give him everything you can till you find a suitable keepter. This is why i don't think young children or anyone still living with their parents should keep large reptiles. YOu will have to move, go to school or what ever down the road and who is left to care for these animals then.

Also stop the baby food..

Sorry bout the LaidToRest. It's my bands name.

Anyway, I resorted to baby food because I don't think he can see and the last time I put a rat in there, he didn't even notice it. I'll try again anyway.

grind up some crix, roaches, turkey , mealworms, superworms, quality veggies ect...

see if he will eat that out of the syringe.

Good luck!
