Hey guys, my female just got her x-rays back anf she has a fracture on the top front right leg. I noticed that her leg was pretty swollen this morning and took her up to a vet. I thought it may have been broken and it was. Cost 113.00 but thats not bad. My tegu's name is Skylar and she is 2 1/2 years old. weighs 3.6 pounds and I would say she's about 3 ft S-2-T long. She likes to sleep alot and my male is 6.7 pounds and 3/8 ft long. he is 6 month younger than my girl. The girl is a finiky eater and tries to sleep alot. She just basically came out of sleeping/semi hibernating from the cold weather and I'm sure that the recent break is from a lack of calcium in her diet. Her right arm is pretty swollen and I'm working on her calcium intake to get her back on track. I'm trying to keep her from doing to much, which is like dealing with a two year old in a cady store. :lol

I'm going to also give her a few extra warm baths which sould help boost her matabilism. We are buying some baby foor and mixing in extra calcium to help the bines mend. She is very alert and seems great. She was so happy to be out of the cage today. She didn't seemed bothered by the injury, but she will try not to use the leg.

Does anyone have any sugestions that may help.

Thank you

sorry to hear about the break icon_sad.gif

did the vet give you any advice as to how to deal with the break ? He / She would be the best as a) they are a medical professonal and b) they have seen the break personally.

that being said

I have dealt with several reptiles with breaks (no tegus though)
If its a new break, you need to find a way to hold the limb in place so that it may heal correctly. You also need to keep the animal from moving on the limb too much.

but honestly, its hard to give any advice too specific since each case is unique. I have never dealt with a swollen broken limb so I don't want to give any advice in that area.

keeping the limb stable is essential for healing also a prescription of anti-inflammatory medications might be helpful also.

what were the vets recommendations??

How did the general bone density look on the Radiograph? Do you know how the injury occured? Is there a possible history of MBD?
