hey guys i might have a possible impaction in tybalt. he seems to be passing urates often and they are healthy looking urates but im not sure if hes passed feces in awhile cause hes always digging and im not sure if its getting mixed into the soil. he still has a great appetite and it looks like he loses weight after a few days so im assuming hes passing feces but like is often said never assume anything so just in case should i try to give him like a 1/4th teaspoon of mineral oil and see what happens? will this hurt him at all? he gets fed every other day outside his enclosure inside an old laundry box so i dont see how he could have got impacted but just in case. what would u guys recommend? and i know ull say the vet but i want to see if i can cure it first without the use of needles and a stressful visit to the vets. so any home remedies for a possible impaction?
Most impactions are cause by dehydration and improper temps.
Be sure he has fresh water available daily. Check your temps as well.
Should be 85 to 90 or so during the day with basking temps of 110 to 115.
Cooler temps will slow the digestion process.
Try a nice long warm soak in the tub. That usually works well.
Also, how old is your tegu? IMO unless it's a large obese adult I would feed daily.
Good luck!

hes alil under a year and 3 feet long hes not obese but he does get pretty chunky but his temps are all right and his humidity is 75 % i just tried the soak and that did nothing for me how long of a soak should it be?
It may take up to a half hour. Be sure the entire body is under water
but not it's head. Tegus are not the greatest simmers, especially for any length of time. They may like the water but will tire and sink as they do not have a body or tail like a Nile or Water Monitor. Keep an eye on it while in the tub.
I would avoid the mineral oil. Try lots of fruit.
If it still has an appetite I think it will be ok for now.
May take another day or so.? The other thing that helps is if you can let him out for a walk. You may end up with an accident on the floor but movement usually helps mine as well.
