I was in my room when i heard something caught in the fan. I looked at it to see my nile monitor make a full circle in the fan. It got slapped a few times.
I think it broke one of its legs... The lower leg, under the knee (if it has one), isnt connected to the higher part of the leg. No bone is poking out of the skin, but the upper legs bone is bulging out underneath of it.
it can use its leg, its not out of service, but its weak and im sure it hurts.
what do i do? Besides take it to the vet (like thats not the first thing i thought of)
its walking on it better, not that that means the injuries any better, its just a tough lizard. Its using its back legs a lot more now. Before it was army crawling, now its using back legs. It could potentially make it worse.
---
and it can kinda move the lower part of the leg.

How exactly did your nile get to the fan?...was it free roaming? I just can't see that happening. I have some advice, TAKE IT TO A VET. That's the best thing you can do. Though you were already gonna do that. I wouldn't suggest trying to do anything like make a splint without a vet's help. JUst keep it happy and warm, and don't force it to move. Good luck... _________________ Animals: Too many.

I am sorry to hear about you pet, however I must agree that a vet can do much more than we can. Even if he is acting better, this could still become a very bad problem as he gains more weight.
yeah take him to the vet as soon as possible. after something like that the injury starts to heal and if not fixed it will heal abnormally..even if he seems to be walking better. bones fuse and once that happens theres not turning back. try to keep him from moving around n keep him warm and hydrated. if ur gonna make a splint just dont make it so snug...more like a barrier so he doesnt bang it on walls or what not. ...like a cushion..maybe a towel? i hope he gets better.. let us know. _________________ 1.0.0 american pit bull terrier

don't even try to make a splint, do whatever it takes to get him to the vet, have them bill you, use a credit card, borrow money (this is just if you don't have the cash and maybe that's why you were looking for alternatives) if you make the splint and the bones fuse and aren't lined up, it will just cost you more in the end and it will cost your nile more problems, they will have to re-break the bone and then line it up and cast it. just take it in asap. good luck man, i hope it all works out. _________________ -Art-
Believe it or not, but you dont need a certificate to help a broken leg! (and you all go "boooo!") Heres the the deal-
Tonight Im going to a friends office, a friend who is a dentist. I'm borrowing her Xray Machine, and im using it. Monday Im taking the xray to the best exotics/herp vet in MD.
I spoke to him on the phone, described what happened to its leg in percise detail. I also explained to him that i need his help but can not Afford it.
He was understanding enough guided me thru what to do- which is what he would do (and what i was going to do in the first place), and thats to straighten the leg, cut a popsicle stick to the appropriate size and tape it on. Monday i see him, i bring him the xray, and the rest is unknown. His leg will take a long time to heal and it will not mend between the date it happened and monday. The purpose of the splint will be to immobilize the leg. perhaps he will use the stick as a peg, perhaps i will tape it to his tail. I'll play it by ear, Ill know what to do after reading the xray.
I will make a splint, If the bones arent lined up.. well, i assure you they will be more lined up than they are now! If the bones are to mend its better they mend straighter than the way they are now.
