Ok, from what I found out everything somewhat varies for people. Tessa, my argentine black and white tegu is fed once a day. She is just over 25 inches now, but was still on the same feeding schedule back in December when she was only 15 inches. I feed her mice of the appropriate size (yours could be eating hoppers at 1 1/2 feet) twice a week. Then I feed ground turkey like twice a week. The other days are all the crickets and superworms she can eat!! Sometimes I'll do crickets every day if she's not filled up on the ground turkey or mouse. I also offer fruit often, but she only will eat a grape every once in a while lol But it's given just in case she changes her mind. Since my girl is so young, I dont have experience with adults, and hopefully others will comment on that. good luck ~Christie

Let the tegu decide when it's done. My albinos are both in the 2ft range. I feed an adult mouse or 2 per feeding. They usually won't take anything else. I'm still working on trying to get them to eat other things!

When feeding insects make sure you supplement them. An all rodent diet doesn't need supplements.

You can feed live meal worms. I've yet to hear a problem about doing so!

Again I've never heard of this. Please find out who's tegu supposedly died from this and bring them here. Did they have the vet do an autopsy to find the real cause, or to prove this actually happened?

The whole mealworm/superworm issue was brought up here.

http://thetegu.com/postlite286-worm.html

My opinion, based on my own experiences, is that you do not need to crush/kill the worms. If you drop a mealworm or superworm in some water it dies within seconds. Not enough time to do any damage to a tegu from within it's digestive tract. I'd say this myth started, more likely, with a dead tegu that was found with worms crawling on it. Perhaps the worms even did some damage to the tegu after it was already dead.

yeah i dont think the meal worms could have time to do any damage... if you can imagine.. the stomach of the tegu has acids that can digest bone.. i dont think that a meal worm would live long enough to even try to bite
