Ah that's the same show where I got Tigger, I got him from "Roaches of the World" located on the upper right side for $70.
Where'd you get the silkies? Was it the 50 for $8 deal?
That's pretty wierd your Beardies didn't take em, mine will pounce any thing they see that squiggles or craws. Maybe you'll have better luck with the Tegu. Well does he take mealies? You can gut load them and make them more nutritional. I prefer Supers though, Tigger dosen't care

I'm guessing they were from the guy in the back. My wife bought them.

We had some butter worms. He would take one usually. He took 3 once.
Aren't supers too big for him?? He's 55g and 12" long.
He ate BOTH large pinkies!!!!! Man is he stuffed!!!! He probably won't eat for 2 days!!
The only food he will eat on his own are pinkies!!! I'll try other types of worms. _________________ 1.1.12 Blue Tegus, 1.0 Red Tegu

That's great to hear!!! Looks like he's taking a step up!!! Now let's see if he'll soon get the craving for insect on his own.
Yeah I find that deal to be too much,I'd rather take that money and some nice fuzzies or crickets. By the way, have you ever seen roaches at the show?
Hmm, I'm not sure..... try offering him some small supers and if he can take them easily step it up a bit. I know Tigger pounds large ones like nothing but then again he's like twice the size or more.......
I haven't tried butter worms, what's the nutritional value on them, where'd you get em?

Not feeders. I bought 250 nymph Blaptica Dubia's back in September (from a guy on BD.org) to build a feeder colony. I gave up and left them alone after 4 months, throwing in some food every 2 weeks for 2 months. Must have had 5-10 litters since!! What a bitch trying to separate them!!! Now I'm waiting for them to grow to be big enough to feed to my Tegu. I sure hope he likes them. Our 21" Bearded Dragon likes the adult roaches, but they're a mouthful, she will only eat one.

We'll look at the show. The local pet guys have supers, I'll have to see if they have some smaller ones. I may have to cut the heads off, I've read they're hard to digest for the smaller guys. Maybe too much shell.

No idea, my wife bought them. They're soft and squishy. _________________ 1.1.12 Blue Tegus, 1.0 Red Tegu

Not's my favorite thing about roaches, there fast reproducers and make great staples! I'm getting a starter colony of six spotted roaches from Bert in July when I recieve my Tegu so I'll just wait till then.
At the show you can get like a pound of supers for only around $8!!! Great deal, the guy who sells them is in the middle rows right next to beardie booth. I never chop of the heads and never had any probs as long as the lizard finely chews(all of mine do....).
I'll have to scan the show for some butter worms and I want some phoneix worms as well.

Not all reproduce fast and not all climb. Blaptica Dubia don't climb, but reproduce slow. I was told 3 months from nymphs to reproducing, it was more like 6 months. I don't think they were warm enough. I had a human heating pad on high under a 66 quart tub. I fed them every other day. Maybe that was too much disturbing. Leaving them alone for a week seems to be better. I checked them last night and there must be a few hundred more babies!!! The fun part is separating them. Our critters better start eating them soon or I'll be over run!! _________________ 1.1.12 Blue Tegus, 1.0 Red Tegu

Huh, I read they were a bit faster at repro then that. Well I just hope the ones I get are on Repro mode! + I'm getting adults so that should be a head start. I don't think I'll have any problems with feeding them off since all my reptiles are little monsters!

If they have the optimum conditions and don't get disturbed they would reproduce faster. Starting with adults will definitely help. It will take forever to get a colony with only 6. They recommend at least 100, but that's probably them figuring on them getting more sales. They have a 30 day gestation period. About 30 per birth. If you get 3 females, you wouldn't get more than 90 per month, probably less while you wait for them to "get in on"!! I have a picture of a female drying her egg sack before she draws it back into her body for the next 30 days.
I bought this guys extra nymphs. They're cheaper than adults. My adults are probably 1 3/4" long, a little big for anything I have except for our biggest BD. The Tegu will be able to eat adults maybe in the fall. _________________ 1.1.12 Blue Tegus, 1.0 Red Tegu

Here's a few new pics of Oreo. He's up to 60g, that's 10g in the last week. But he ate 2 large pinkies yesterday. that's the only food he'll eat on his own. We feed him yogurt and baby food every other day with a syringe. He won't eat that during the day when I leave it on a plate.
I caught him yawning. _________________ 1.1.12 Blue Tegus, 1.0 Red Tegu

He's looking real good!!! I can see that he's also in shed by looking at his fingers, he's growing!!! Do you feed the pinkies F/T? If you do, try stuffing it with some crickets, he'll be getting some nice crickets without even knowing it!
I'm hoping Bert at least sends 10, I'll buy some more after wards to keep the repro levels up.

P.S. Love the yawning pic!
If you look carefully in the yawning pic you can see a little flake of loose shed on the top of his head.
Yes, F/T. They're supposed to be fuzzies for the snakes but there's alot of varying sizes. I've been giving him the smaller ones with barely any fuzz on them. I'll give him a slightly larger one this weekend.
He is growing!! He's grown 1 inch since we got him 1 month ago, even with his eating difficulties.
Man, how am I gonna stuff a cricket in a little mouse like that??
Roaches are cool, as long as they don't get loose in your bed!! _________________ 1.1.12 Blue Tegus, 1.0 Red Tegu

Swwweet pic with the snake , looks like he's charging out for the fuzzy. Where'd you get that stuff? What'd you do about it sticking to the prey? I personally use Aspen and swear by it!
Well 1st mush up the crickets, then take a syringe and fill it with the cricket mush, next fill the pinky with a decent amount of the cricket mush, then serve! I've tried before but with an adult mouse, should be harder with the pinky but not impossible.
Once he gets up and eating, you'll see him grow like NUTS!!!
Yeah roaches don't bother me but if they come at me unexpected I'll flip like a mutha!!!

I feed him on a paper towel. He refused that one (second mouse) and went into his hide so I dropped it to see what he would do. He came out to check it out and yawned to realign his jaw. Desert Snow is available at some pet stores, it's a smaller version of Care Fresh Bedding which is available at almost every pet store.

Isn't there something more nutritions than cricket mush??
I can't wait for him to get bigger!! And calmer.
I've been spraying and mixing the cypress mulch to keep up the humidity underground where he spends 98% (I think) of his time. I have to cover up most of the top to keep more of the humidity in. _________________ 1.1.12 Blue Tegus, 1.0 Red Tegu
