You should buy from a known breeder with a good reputation. Rick and Bobby are two of those. You should PM Bobby (Varnyard) and find out what he's got (he's in Florida). They'll be hatching soon!!
Are you prepared to properly care for it?? Do you realize they grow to 3.5 to 4.5 feet long? It'll fit in a 20 gallon tank for a month or two, but then you'll need a larger home for him (or yourself!!).
Our 4 month old is a little on the small side (90g & 14"). He's living in a 75 gallon tank for the next few months. I'm going to build him a 7 foot x 3 foot x 3 foot enclosure this fall, depending on his growth rate. He's doubled his weight and grown 2 inches in the last 5 weeks! Then again our biggest Bearded Dragon (21", 660g) grew 1" a week for 8 weeks!! _________________ 1.1.12 Blue Tegus, 1.0 Red Tegu

[b]yes i am well prepared to take care of him and well aware of how large they get . i have plenty of room in my house to build and me and my family have had many reptles in our home even a 13 foot boa constrictor !!!! trust me he will be pampered and loved for when we get our newest member of the family . i know i am only 14 years of age but i have probably studied more on animals than anyone i have ever known. i want to be a vet when i am old enough and determined to reach my goal . i wouldnt ask for an animal if i wasnt prepared to take on the responsability . thank you so much for your consern and help !!!
do you know how low baby tegus will be sold ????? beacuse so far i have seen babies as high as $200 !!!! plus i dont think my mother would like to pay even $100 for the baby tegu ! you know how parents are ! soon i will be working so yay for me ! but i dont have the money right now becuase if i did i probably would have bought the tegu 2 days ago ! lol plus its gonna be a Birthday gift. lol my lil sis is so excited ! me im way above that !
You can try Bert at Agama, but the shipping cost will get you. http://www.agamainternational.com/pages/order.html _________________ 1.1.12 Blue Tegus, 1.0 Red Tegu

go to agamainternational.com
Bert has yearling black and whites at only $80 each. He also told me that shipping to Kansas City was $40. He is in Alabama so it probably wouldn't be much different to Florida. So all together only $120, that is really good. And they are sexable.
He also mentioned that the only reptile show he attends is the Daytona Beach reptile show. Which I checked and it is on August 17-19. Here is the link. http://www.reptilebreedersexpo.com/
I would contact him and let him know so he could save one if you want to wait for the show. He will most likely have his new clutches of hatchlings from this year at that show which he said he charges $60 for online. The only problem is that they might not be sexable, because he told me not until September will they be sexable. But that price could go up in person. Your best bet is probably to order one online.
Go to his site and e-mail him to find out if he has any yearlings left. I am waiting for his new clutches to be sexable in September myself so that I can get one. But you might not want to wait.
