They are a small relative of the tegus, they are all over the southern part of this state. They are insect, mice and fruit eaters from South America. Here is a picture of one.

hmmm petco caresheets bobby??? shame on you
anywho here's a quick run down on Ameiva ameiva (aka green ameivas)
they get about 20 inches with 6 inches being the head an body, you can stick a pair in a 4x 2 x 2 cage with about 6-10 inches of dirt for substrate. basking spot needs to be brightly illuminated with a basking temp of about 115.
you'll prob want to get fecals done on them because they often carry heavy parasite loads.
they will drink from a dish but like humidity in the 60-80% range.
they are primarily insectivores but soem will occasionally take items such as small mice and bird eggs (and they love other lizard like anoles too)
if you have any other questions feel free to shoot me a pm

oh, I forgot to mention Ameivas are look but dont touch lizards, they are very nervous and require a lot of hiding places . also you may want to mask the sides of the tank (if it's glass) with plants and other such items to create a visual barrier as they are prone to making 150 mph dashes into the sides.
as for aquiring some look around at differet pet shops and if that's a no go, hit me up I have some available to me right now, but you'd be better off finding some locally to avoid shipping fees

Well I don't think either of them books were written for Ameivas, however both authors are well known. I will also say the care sheet looks to me like the best one out there right now. Unless you care to make one that is even better Kevin. _________________ www.tegu.com and www.Varnyard-herps-inc.com

They have some at a local pet store, $25. We saw them at the White Plains show 2 weeks ago, $10. Absolutely gorgeous!!! We were really tempted!!! Too bad you can't handle them. _________________ 1.1.16 Blue Tegus, 1.0 Red Tegu, 0.1 B&W Arg. Tegu

On your care sheet you say that Green Ameivas are carnivorous, but they do eat fruits, correct? _________________ www.tegu.com and www.Varnyard-herps-inc.com

I have never seen any eat fruit, --greens,tigers,leopards
I have worked with all 3 and have offered all 3 fruit, none have taken it
if they will accept it sure offer it but I wouldnt consider that the "norm"
Edit: I just read the caresheet and I did make mention of fruit
