Hey, my name is Jordan. I have a year and a half old tegu named Ruby.
I think she is very sick. I noticed the other day she was having a hard time going to the bathroom and later, after calling the vet, she had a prolapse of the clocoa*.. er, rectum.
Where I am at financially there is no way to get her to a vet.
I soaked her for awhile in some warm water and it loosened the stool enough for me to squeeze her blockage out. Everything seemed okay, and everything went back to normal.
Today it happened again. I haven't been home so I don't know how long she'd had another prolapse. The tissue looked dry like it had been in air for awhile. Again, I soaked her in warm water but it didn't go back to normal.
If ANYONE can help this situation I would be eternally grateful. She doesn't look very relaxed and I am afraid she will get necrosis, blood poisoning or something. I am VERY VERY concerned, I love my baby...

ive heard sugar water will help the prolapse if that doesnt work you have to get her to the vet, or you are going to have serious problems, you might have to borrow money, use a credit card, or maybe the vet can arrange a payment plan of some sort... but other than that, id watch to make sure your tegu doesnt eat anything that could block her up _________________ -Art-
Dont take this the wrong way. Good luck not going to the vet.... Its one of the responsibilities we have as pet owners. Financially sometimes they can cost us money when there is a problem and they have to see a professional. It is another story finding a reputable herp vet. If I can give you any advice it would be to take it to the vet ASAP. Borrow money from someone, your parents, friends, etc. My tegu had a very mild prolapse and I had to take it to the vet. They gave him an enema and he was all clogged up with hair they said. I left the vet $100 later which wasnt very bad and it included meds. I had to give him oral batryl I believe it was for a week or two. Money for me was super tight during the time because I was a student and the vet where I was from in San Diego was very expensive b/c he also worked at the SD Zoo but I felt comfortable taking him there and they were very reputable. Be careful taking him to a vet that doesnt deal with reptiles they might not be able to help and you will waste your money.
I completely understand where you are coming from. However, my finances are subpar currently. I took her to an exotic vet today and they have connections with the Northern California Herpetological Society. I surrendered her to their care. I know I did the best thing from my position. I would rather never see her again yet her be healthy. It was not an easy choice by any standards. I am heart broken.
Thanks everyone.

dang man... that's rough... but you did the right thing. There are a lot of people out there that wouldn't have even thought of doing that. That took a lot. I wish you good luck with everything, it'll all turn out for the best. You'll get another one when the time comes. Seriously though, im glad you did what you had to. _________________ -Art-
