So I have a ball python, he's a great eater, personality, everything! My question is this: Do they require humidity? I've been told by some people they do not, yet others say they DO need it...mine's been fine for two years with average (50-65%)humidity...so which is it?

I think as long as you provide a water dish for them to soak in they'll be fine with that level of humidity...but you should spray the cage a couple times a day while they're shedding (but you probably already know that).

Those numbers are fine. If you use any type of supplementary heat from above you'll have to check the internal humidity of the tank. Rising heat will dry the air.
I cover the top of the tank as described in this article. http://www.ball-pythons.net/forums/showthread.php?t=32800 I never have to mist and only once every day or two during shed. I can maintain 70-80% humidity for my Brazilian Rainbow Boa with out misting. Just put the water bowl partially over the UTH. Agreed...my husband and I spray the cages down a few times a week, until they are about to shed, then they get a good spraydown until they shed.

You don't want to get the substrate too wet. It can cause scale rot.
