Ok so I'll admit I'm new to the tegu. I had a beardie, simple simple simple reptile, I have an iguana, high maintainance bitch, and I got a tegu about 2 weeks ago. He's amazing and I see why people love him, but OH MY GOD, whenever I feed him an egg, my whole house just REEKS! I've fed him a variety of different foods and no problems. He seems to LOVE superworms, but he also really enjoys eating eggs and making a mess, but is it normal for their crap to smell that bad from eating eggs?

Yep. That's one of the many reasons people don't feed eggs too often. icon_lol.gif

Stick with whole bodied animals (Mice, crickets, superworms etc) and fruit and it will stink a lot less.

If your tegu gets a good variety in it's diet the waste will not smell any worse then most any other pet. If you feed too much of one item, you will more than likely get a rank smelling waste. Some things in excess make a worse odor.. Egg is one.. Banana is another. Either are fine in moderation, but in excess.. Ewww.

Lol. Well we've had quite a few different kinds of food. He loves them all, essentially he's a billy goat with much more beautiful skin. As for his crap, he's very well behaved, he only does it in one side of the tank and his tank never stinks. He got one egg and my eyes watered when I got home. Whew lesson learned, eggs very very rarely. Thanks Rick. I'd really like to meet you so let me know when you hit the West Coast.
