I know there are several types of docile lizards available.

Those that come to mind are Bearded Dragons,Blue Tongue Skinks,Mountain Horned Dragons,Tegu's,some Monitors.

Does anyone know of others that can be docile or even tamed?

i have a couple mali uromastyx that are very docile, they will actually sit up in your hand and are very at ease with being around people. i believe most uromastyx are that way but i only know for sure the two i have.

You forgot the gecko family, mainly leos and fat tails. There are a few others that can become tolerant of handling and human interaction, i have a sudan plated lizard that is 15 years old and even when i was a little kid he let me take him to school and all the kids would pock and prod and he didn't mind it. Granted now his not too fond of being held but he has scense retired and allow Bosco to take all the attention.

Water dragons mainly Assies they can really tame down and eat out of your hand, this can happen with some chines water dragons but they are wild caught verses cbb like the assies. A nice compact lizard with a good aditude.

Fire skins are also really calm, if can find them these days, not too many people dealing with them anymore.

then u got black and white throut monitors, ackies, argus all which are the calmer of the monitors.

These are just off the top of my head if i think of anymore i'll get back to you.

yeah the uros are quite tame, they remind me of bearded dragons, they seem to be the same way. IMO they are equally as "tame" as beardies.

Blackthroats and whitethroats can calm down ok, but they are certainly not as tame as tegus naturally are. With ackies, they are very rarely aggressive, and even if they were, they only get 2 feet. I think I would be more afraid of a Tokay's bite than an ackie's. icon_lol.gif

Now, about the argus......
These are the LEAST CALM MONITORS OUT THERE.

Here's a few videos that demonstrate their feeding response.

These are not my videos, the first 2 are from Krusty, or Jburokas from Rz\Ks. The last one is from shay_ from ks and rz.

As you can see, there is nothing "calm" about them. Believe me, if an argus monitor doesn't run, jump, and kill like mad, it's not healthy. They are almost hyperactive.

Just thought I should clear that up.

Now, getting to the real point of this post.....
Crested geckos are pretty calm. If you are lucky, frilled dragons can become used to you as well. I don't find them as "tame" as beardeds, but I think they can certainly become accustomed to humans. icon_wink.gif

thats wierd the two argus i had a few years back were great, not as calm granted as my tegu or the black throut, and there was nothing health wise wrong with them.

In all honestly almost any, key word almost, reptile can become "tame". I've seen Tokay geckos that can be handled and don't put up too much of a fight when taken out of the cage, and these are healthy animals, on the other hand i've seen and been bited by leopard geckos that u can even get into their cages to feed. There is the enviromental factor of how much time your willing to put into them. Course there are some speices that are easier then others, i mean its doubtful there will ever be a nile croc that is a calm as a pet tegu.

I suppose yours may have been an exception, but I have never seen an argus without a killer feeding response and attitude. icon_wink.gif How did you have them set up?

Yeah, there are quite a few lizards that can be tamed, but In my opinion, none are as fun as a tame tegu.

we had them in an 8'x4'x4' outdoor cage, granted this is when i use to live in San Diego so the weather was perfect. Half the cage was shaded, there was two feet of sand/dirt mixture. They had a great feeding response but i don't count that as aggressive they knew they were being fed when they could hear the metal bowls then they went nuts, but any other time and they calm.

Iguanas hu... i remember iguanas not being too friendly somtimes, well the common green iguana anyway, of course there are exceptions.

I have heard that Frilled lizards can become tame, if you get them at a young age and spend a lot of time with them

I fully agree, when getting any type of pet it can go either way. But for the most part with enough handling and training it is possible to tame one of the bad/mean ones.... But in some rare circumstances your gonna get something that don't wanna be tamed.

I would be very careful when buying any Reptile or Pet for that matter make sure Im not getting over my head. I have seen to many people having to get ride of their pets cuz they get to big or they don't have the time or the proper housing for the pet.

OFF TOPIC PS: I was at a animal actor studio its where they have all sorts of reptiles for tv adds and movies.. and I'll tell you what dose not make a good pet.. A Snapping turtle...lol they had one there i called thor he was almost 4 foot from head to tail.. 120 lbs and was not a happy boy..lol
