It is correct. A tegu will generally shed it's tail days to a week after the body sheds.
Make sure to mist the enclosure daily. This is better than soaking as far as sheds are concerned. Too much soaking will draw the natural oils out of the tegus skin and can actually complicate the shedding process. If soaking is required, short soaks are better.
Since your tegu is a red tegu, make sure it gets a lot of fruits in it's diet. A good multivitamin powder supplement like Minerall is suggested every few days. All tegus can benefit from the fruit and/or multivitamin supplement, but for reds it's critical to avoid skin and shedding issues.
Huh mine dones the opposite. He sheds his tail first and then the rest of the body. I think I just have a wierd one because with every other lizard Ive ever had it goes the way you guys are saying
he is doing good i feed him whole food items alot like superworms , crickets, pinkie's and i feed him grapes and apple and eggs(scrambled and boiled) eggs only on occasion cause of the smell afterwards lol and banana like twice a month. he is wayyyyyyyy bullkier then when i got him a month ago he is like twice as muscular and alot fatter and growing fast 2INCHES!!!! lol _________________ Goals:100 posts DONE!

Awesome. Keep the fruit up, try sweet strawberrys. Mine love em. I try to get the ones that have been at the store for the longest. They seem to be less bitter as they are getting ready to get soft.

i spray the tank every day.i just give him one or two baths when he doesn't shed his tail and gently rub or pull (stroke) his tale to make the skin come of.if i feel that the skin is not loose i leave him alone and dry him of with a t-shirt and put him back in the tank.i don't want to dry him of with a towel because he can get his nails stuck because towels are not smooth and he is just a baby.i also but a towel on his tank at night when the lights are of so the tank doesn't get to cold in side.
I've had good luck in the past few years with ultrasonic humidifiers (ie. http://www.google.com/search?q=thomas+the+tank+engine+humidifier). Set it on low, attach it to a sump hose, route it into the tank and you get guaranteed airflow and humidity. For smaller animals, you'll need some kind of perforated cover for the hose.
Another simple trick is to get a cup of warm water and a few paper towels and "pet" your animal. Stroking gently with a damp towel effectively gives your tegu (or otherwise) a spongebath while helping to get them acclimated to handling. Be careful, some tegus are sensitive about their (frangible) tails, so don't force the issue if they seem nervous. _________________ 1.0 T. Teguixin (Speedy)
