If i remember correctly this is called parthenogenesis. When a female reptile gives birth without mating. I believe only a few reptiles can do this and the babies all come out female as there are no male genes involved.
Correct you are: parthenogenesis. I have read that this is not unique to reptiles, but not from a "scientific" source, per se. If you're interested, that source is :The Flower of Life, VOLs I & II by Drunvalo Melchizedek.
Of further interest is the fact that parthenogenesis is highly documented in a number of teids. Nearly a third of the species comprising the genuses Aspidoscelis and Cnemidophorus are parthenogenetic. It seems to be frequently the result of hybridization between two, sometimes three species. Some of the parthenogenetic species are a diploid combination of two bisexual species that hybridized, others appear to have resulted when a member of a diploid unisexual species and a male of either a parent species or a third species have mated and produced a triploid parthenogenetic species.
