This forum has so little activity that it's become fairly mundane. Wonder why... Oh wait I know. icon_eek.gif

The tegus are all asleep for the winter. Nothing to say except "My tegu is hibernating". Not too interesting. I also miss the interesting posts, but I'm sure they'll be back when the tegus wake up in spring. I sure miss mine.

Tell me about it, Im having to hold myself back from feeding Sparky in the mornings when he is basking under his heat source. It tough when every other animal is being fed and he looks at me and gives me that wheres mine? icon_cry.gif

Oh, well. Rather not feed and him wake up alive than feed and have him die in his sleep.

ApriliaRufo is just over here trying to stir up trouble I suspect. icon_confused.gif

Guess he doesn't have enough to do on the other forum.

Nah I was just laughing at how bored everyone is because of the brumation period taking a toll on everybody. I wouldn't stir up trouble. I don't have trouble with this forum at all.

Our little Tegster (50 centimeters now!) has no plans for hibernation. Of course we've left the lights on so we could spend the winter taming him.

Every morning we wake to the sound of him leaping up against the screen of his "20 long" tank. Even the cat has become accustomed to watching his antics in the morning.

He can't wait to get out and eat! After breakfast he basks awhile and comes back out. He explores every inch of my sons room (Tegster is his) and sometimes even breaks into a sprint. We watch TV with him and sit here at the computer with him.

Today I took him to my sons 5th grade class. They are graphing his growth each month. Another good reason to keep him awake!

What amazing beings these Tegus are!

New to Tegus and loving every minute of it!

It really is uncanny how people create bonds with animals. Tegus are a very stange animal because they create a bond that really is like no other. Having a tegu is like having the monitor you always wanted, without having to worry about the feeling of failure some people get when the monitor does not respond to the affection you show. Monitors are very independent and so are tegus but no where near to the point of the monitor. It's like having a smaller komodo dragon in your house, that has adjusted to its surroundings and does not feel threatened by it. Very cool animals. Very cool. Awesome to hear about the school's interest. As soon as our heloderma arrives, we're going to do birthday party visits with a bunch of reptiles. Good times.

All_American,

I could be wrong, but I think that when they get up and bask and then bury themselves again it's not hibernation and at least at that point you don't have to worry about feeding them. I say this because my guy is doing the same thing and it was explained to me that when they hibernate they go down and really don't come up until the spring. But before you change what you're doing I'd check with more informed folks.

Absolutely!

If he is coming out every morning and basking then he is not hibernating. Keep the cage temps where they should be normally and feed him.

When an Arg b&w hibernates you won't see him for months. And before that they will go off feed on their own.

Bill

I haven't been posting lately, because I don't have anything to say. I am not one to fill a forum up with meaningless posts just to say I posted.
Just to let everyone know, I'm not in a snit, I'm just busy, and haven't had a lot to say lately.
For my update, none of my tegus are hibernating, they are all coming out to eat and bask(outside in the outdoor pen). Even Noah. He's the worst at 'sleeping in', while the two reds will be out poking into everything.
I have ONE roll of wire up on the new giant outdoor pen. Some other stuff came up, and I haven't gotten to do more than that so far. I feel like I should have way more done, but work has to come first. Stupid work interferring with my tegu enjoyment.
*waves at the site*
So anyway, I'm around, and I poke my nose in to read stuff. Just not posting much, since there's just not much going on other than "SSDD".
Rick, your reds are getting bigger and bigger! And Gracie is getting mroe red than ever.
