Im going to be purchasing a black and white arg. tegu from agama international this summer and i was wondering if anyone has anything good or bad to say about agama internationals reptiles. I was also wondering if anyone had any taming tips for me...I have heard that they are easily tamable. _________________ Ashley

They are one of the best in the biz! You shouldn't have any trouble! As for the baby B & W, give it a week or 2 to settle in. Once that's done handle it often and you should end up with a nice calm b & w! _________________ John Light

Hi Scuzzy.
Just look over this website theres lots of taming tips on it.
Use the search button for helping you find them.
Also theres an artical about calming an untame tegu in the "helpful info"section (in the main menu)
It all comes down to keep handeling it as John is saying and taking it one step at a time.
Keep reminding yourself this is a reptile and you do not place your will on a reptile, it just doesnt work that way.
Stay calm and it will be calm. Move slowly and if its to skittisch I would recomend to take the enclosures size down to the minimum so you dont have to chase behind it to handle it.
And start with just working in the enclosure without trying something on it.
It will accept the fact that your hands are there and will know they are not there to hurt it. Then try and tough it. Pet it for a bit. If it freaks out then slowly take your hand out again. Let the tegu set the pase
Its a matter of ensuring it your ok and making it trust you enough to be cool with being toughed and eventually taken out of the enclosure.

I think just getting the tegu at such a young age should do the trick. Get the tegu really young and handle him/her as much as possible and it should come out fine and tame as can be. Thats the method that I have been using and my tegu is real calm and loves to be held and loves attention. _________________ Kevin

If you end up getting one from Bert, there's a chance our tegus will be brother/sister. I got mine from him in December... was one of the first to poke its head out and investigate things... and he's just starting to come all the way out of hibernation. Things are getting exciting! Good luck!

Its a good thing I dont have lotsa money. I really would end up with a private herp zoo

I have not bought from Bert (Agama International), but I will probably order a dozen this summer if things go well. I have however spoke with Bert several times and he is a very intelligent man when it comes to tegus, or reptiles in general. He also speaks in several languages so support communication if you have problems will be a breeze.
