I gave my Tegu a soak in the tub today for only about ten minutes. When I took her out she was making a weird gurgalling noise and was puking up clear snot like secretions. She also will open her mouth and act like she is gaging and will sometimes puke up more clear mucus. I called the vet and no one in my area handles exotics. I'm a Paramedic, so I took my infant stethoscope and listened to her lungs. They definitely sound crackly, like there is water in them. About a half hour after this started, she calmed down and stopped puking. She occasionally will puke up more clear stuff, but seems like the bulk of what was in her is out. After listening again with my stethoscope, I could still hear crackles of water in her right lung. Does anyone have any advise on what I might be able to do or has anyone had this happened before? Please respond if you have any ideas.

This is common if your tegu just drank water and you picked the tegu up, the water will "run" out of the rose or mouth. It's best not to disturb a tegu directly after drinking.

Ya that happens everyonce in awile with my boy Zeek, and ya its usually doesnt happen till i pick him up. Scared teh crap outta me the first time it happened though!

this exact thing happened to me... just like rick said, it happens... I noticed in my case the problem was that my tegu kept tipping over his water bowl and never actually got a chance to drink.. he did this everyday and when i put him in his bath he would gulp down water so much so I think he actually over drank.. and thats when he had clear mucus come from his mouth I have the entire drama posted on a different site.. and seeing that I too went to school to be a paramedic I did the exact same thing and listened to his lungs and the did sound raspy.. But now i have a water dish so large and heavy he cant tip it and it never happens now.. _________________ Arg. B+W Tegu 1.0.0

this actually just happened to my little skink zoey yesterday!
it was so scary and since shes getting old i tend to just leave her alone , i have an idea that may have caused it is because she fell off her waterfall about 5inches to the ground directly after drinking i dint take notice at first but when she starts to bubble at her mouth it scared me so bad! _________________ Goals:100 posts DONE!
