Hi, I don't own a B/W tegu yet but I am saving up for one I have close to $30.00 saved up right now. I'm about 13 years old ( Don't give me shi* about me being so young and going to have a tegu lol). Right now I have a Budgett's frogs, Pacman frog, 3 leopard geckos, 1 Crested Gecko, And a Blue Tongue Skink.
Listen mate, whatever people have told you from pet shops or what ever about your age. Completely ignore it all. =]
I got my first reptile when I was 13, It was a corn snake..
A couple of months later, I have a whole variety of reptiles..
I'm 14 and I got the whole your too young to handle these animals.
suuure.. if the reptiles grow huge and can get nasty your gonna get hurt.. but Im not planning on letting them get nasty.
I have 1 Cornsnake, 1 Iguana, 1 Milk Snake, 2 Bearded Dragons, 1 gecko
They've all been fiine for me =]
Hope you get your tegu, post some pics up, I still have to lol

Tegsters keeper is only 10 years old (my son). But I am the one that does the detail work. I don't mind. Tegster is cooooool
Just know this-we got Tegster at the end of October. It is now the middle of February and we have spent over $1000 on him. Most of that has gone into buying materials and tools to build his permanent enclosure.
And that doesn't include the additional $20 a month added to the electric bill for his lighting and heat.
A tegu is an amazing being. Make sure you can give it everything it needs. _________________ Renee

I just want to let every kid on this forum know that I'm very proud of them for wanting to take the responsibility to take care of such a awsom animal.I love our Tegus sooooo much.I never thought that I could take a nap with a lizard .It you are going to get one I recommend to get a hatchling.Yes,to take care of them does cost a lot of money but if you are being smart about it you also can save some money when you know or learn where you can go to get the things you need at a different store than just the pet store.Like I get my cypress mulch at a feed store.3 Qu.Ft. / 8.5 L for not even $6.The spray bottle ( 2 L for $ 5) I bought that at Big Lots.At the pet store it can cost up to $ 10 or $ 20.I bought a small fridge with freezer at Target for about $175 where I keep just the food for the reptiles in.I bulk buy my food.I pay $19 for 1000 yes 1000 crickets and about the same for 500 super worms. That way you don't have to spend so much money on gas because you don't have to go to the store every day.Check out Rodentpro.com or LLLreptile.com to check out the prices there for the Rodents.Hope that helps.I'm actually very impressed with kids that have a good hobby that helps them to stay out of trouble. My son is 13 years old so I know where you kids are coming from .Take care and good luck.
