Hey everyone,
i'm a new owner of a b/w argentinian tegu, about 5 months old. well, i've actually had him two weeks now, but i've spent that much time trying to figure him out. i have two dogs that are trying to do the same it makes for interesting times around the house.
i'm getting ready to build a custom enclosure for him. everyone has great ideas, now i just have to personalize 'em.
hey! welcome to thetegu, tis really a fun, interesting place to be!
You should get some pictures of your tegu up, I really need to get some more batteries for my camera so I can get some pictures up.
If you need any help with building your enclosure pm me, I've built all my own large enclosures
stick around, you'll learn alot, and meet some very friendly, interesting people =]
for example, people I have learnt alot from are:
Tegster - first introduced me to the forum!
Meanah
txrepgirl
Rick (admin, give good advice on alsorts)
more or less everyone on here is friendly!! Im just saying those are the people who have made the best impression to me so far, there are more, but I can't remember all their names! lol _________________ Davii

Welcome! My 10 year old is Tegsters "Daddy". But I've decided Tegster and I are going to be best friends. And yes-these guys make for interesting times.
We have just finished Tegsters enclosure but we haven't recruited enough help to lug it out of the basement, through the deep, very deep snow, around to the deck, in through the sliding doors, and up to the second floor to my son's room, without causing damage to it, us, or the house.
Inhale.......
We will have finishing touches to put on it when we do get it there. I can't imagine what Tegster will think of it after being in a 20 gal long all this time. I hope he doesn't get all weird on us.
We'll post pics when it is really really done. _________________ Renee

Tegster since the enclosure has to be humid did you put any treatment on it to seal it so the wood doesn't get to wet and starts to mold.If not here is a site you maybe want to check out.Good luck with moving the enclosure .Take care.

i named him willis i do need to get pictures up, he's growing so fast!
I'm going today to get all the materials for his enclosure. i'm pretty excited, though due to a minor set back (a broken knee), i'm going to have to do as much as i can inside my house.
i appreciate everyone being so welcoming, and davii thank you, i will more likely than not hit you up for some help with the enclosure.

Good luck with building the enclosure but please be careful with you knee.I believe you when you sad that Willis is growing fast.My Leonidas is just a few months old and he is 22" long and already weighs 306 g and he eats more and more each day.I don't want to see how much they are going to eat when my Tegus are full grown.Zeus is still hibernating.Take care.

Txrepgirl,
His enclosure (ceiling, floor, walls, inside and outside of hide/burrow is lined with ceramic tile board or shower board. It caused some concern when I posted about it in another string. I ended up going to the manufacturers website. It is called AquaTile Decorator panels. And as long as you don't mar the surface and you seal the edges (we used clear, pure silicone) it is meant to be in high humid or even wet areas. Tegsters enclosure will be humid but not wet.
Tegsters claws won't be able to mar it. It will be really easy to clean. I'll try to find my other post about it and direct you to it.
Oh-any wood that is showing is painted with Kilz. But Tegster won't be touching those parts very much(frame of his basking shelf, and trim around windows/doors). _________________ Renee

Txrepgirl,
Here are the details: Aquatile embossed tileboard by Decorative Panels International. We bought it at Lowes for $17.87 each sheet. _________________ Renee
