Hi Im new and would like some advice about my red tegus i believe i have a male and female.
the female is very friendly though a little nervous but the male is very aggressive towards me he has already bitten me, is it because he is protecting the female i have only had them for two weeks and the male seems to be growing at an amazing pace so i really need to sort this issue out with him before he gets too BIG

i would be grateful for any advice anyone can give me

thanks

What I would do with your male is try to handle him away from the female. What I did with one of my Tegus ( the other one is still hibernating ) is I put on two shirts. One is for you not to scratched up and the other one is for him to hide under.Since you are the hiding place for him now he will feel save.He also will like your body heat and will get used to you faster because he can smell you.Just lay down and let him lay on you.If he is calm try to pet him or just keep your hand on him. After a long time doing this to my Tegu and he started to be calm on my shoulders I put him in a hoody. That way he can hide and I don't have to worry about him falling of my shoulders and getting hurt.Just try to handle him every day for about 1/2 hour to 1 hour. That will help a lot, too.Hope that helps. If you want to you can check out some of my pictures in the photo gallery.Just click on the gallery button on the bottom of this post.Good luck.
