I'm going to make an attempt to post pics. : ) I have my outdoor enclosure pretty close to complete. I have revamped one of my cat pens which is 12 X 18. It would have been much easier to have just put plywood around the chainlink....but then I would not have been able to see my tegus as well.......AND it would have blocked the natural sun. After seeing what the reptile rescue had used, I lined the chainlink with a smaller plastic mesh to keep from hurting their noses. I also used a clear fiberglass wherever I didn't want them to be able to climb further. They will have 3 containers (only one metal stock tank is in there right now) that will be filled with substrate.....each will have a different temp and humidity so they can move to where they are most comfortable. I still have to make their ramps/shelves so that they can climb in and out of the stock tanks. I'm thinking about using metal closet shelves...covering them with sunscreen...then stucco. We'll see if I can pull it off. Dang... I better go check "helpful info" and see if I can figure out how to attach pics.

It will get sun morning and then early evening. I was more concerned with keeping them cool enough (I live in AZ) since they will not be able to burrow underground. My tortoises do not burrow and they are only out early and late and then sleep during the hot part of the day. I'm sure I'll have to tweek things as I see how they are doing. I can always trim away more greenery to allow more sunshine.
I thought I would have another month or so before these guys went outside, but looks like I need to hurry. My tegus are in a 40 gal long tank which I only intended on them being in til spring....thought all would be fine. Nope. Arrgus at about 7 months old is 39 inches long and has way outgrown his house. I may put them in the stock tank with heat while I'm finishing stuff. Can't stand to see my poor baby so crowded....even if it is nice to have them inside.

icon_biggrin.gif yeah no problem with sun icon_lol.gif Az is plenty hot enough icon_biggrin.gif if you had Argentine red tegu The habitat would be similar to the western part of argentina. but Argentine B&W would do great too icon_biggrin.gif looking at the weather of argentina compared to AZ icon_biggrin.gif its about the same icon_biggrin.gif

Well dang Jeff......guess I'll just have to see about getting a red now too.

I'd actually like to find some adults that are no longer wanted and in need of new homes. As bright as these guys are......I think I would do fine with some that even need to be placed due to aggression. I got some of my cats that way in the past. Nothing like getting an adult feline that can stand on it's back legs and reach your throat. You learn to have a healthy respect for each other real quick. : ) After having my tegu "blow" at the vets and end up biting me.....they are not nearly as bad to deal with. Arrgus may not be full grown...but at 39 inches long.........I've had smaller cats do more damage. : )

After I see how my outside pens work out.....I think I will start looking into getting one or two more.
