I have been wanting to do this for a while and I was wondering if a foam back ground would be OK with a tegu?

If you cover the foam with concrete it will be fine, but with that much concrete the cage will weigh a ton. I made a concrete covered foam background in my leopard gecko cage, the smallest cage in the house...and it now weighs around 50 lbs. An eight foot tegu cage will weigh a couple hundred by itself, add that much concrete and you're gonna need a bulldozer to move it.

Hi,

i always use covered foam...
its easy to design...cover it with the glue you use for the tiles in the bathroom (sry...dont know the english word)
And that is easy to paint...

or u design the background with styropor?! its even easier. icon_lol.gif

If you want to use concrete then just make the wholy thing removable. It could even come out in sections. Make sure its fastened of bottom heavy enough that it CAN'T fall over. That would suck.

hes talking about grout........
it is close to concrete, just not as permanent. It is basically the same ingredients, and you can color it or paint it. it is both durable and water/heat resistant. It would also be good for wearing down the claws.

Venomousdave ( David ) kannst Du Deutsch reden ( do you know German ? that would be cool icon_biggrin.gif ).How is Carla doing ? hope all is well.Just in case some body wonders how I know some of the members names and even some times there Tegu's name is because a while back we had a post that some members introduced them self.So I can remember who I'm talking to especially if I don't see them on the forum a lot ( any more ) I wrote down the names on a pager icon_wink.gif .Now the ones I talk to a lot I don't have to look them up any more icon_lol.gif .

icon_lol.gif your funny.I rather have my Tegus small so they are not to heavy for me icon_lol.gif .I got the name Lea from Leo ( Lionidas / Leonida ) icon_wink.gif .His head and eyes are smaller than Zeus head and eyes.Since Zeus is still hibernating Leonidas caught up with him.Now he/she weighs more and is longer than Zeus.
