I was wondering if it were at all possible to breed a columbian and an arg B&W together? I think that would be interesting. I currently have a columbian and an arg. b&w about the same age as each other and they are housed together. The funny thing is that my arg. B&W has the personality of the columbian and the columbian has the Argentine's personality. So I was just curious if they would ever mix with each other. I think that would be an interesting combo. though I am not going to try to mix them, just curious...

Yea i think it would be interesting. My columbian I believe is a female but still unsure. My arg. is a male. They are both about 10 months old and were hatched the same week at Nature Coast Exotics. I got the columbian when it was 5 months old(Selky), and I got the arg.(Leo) on dec. 26th at 9 months old. Still trying to befriend him but he's still scared of me and is very defensive. I keep them housed together and they love each other. They are always cuddling and they like to hunt for food together. They have never fought over food and they both share out of the same dish.

Selky has the personality of an arg. and Leo has the columbian's personality. its a little weird.

Also I saw the other day on this forum somewhere that this guy had a tegu and was confused on which it was. I think it looks like a columbian\arg. mix. I forget which post it was.

chances are this will not work. thank god. leave th species alone crossing them is pointless and a waste of a beautiful animal. chances are the eggs i produced would not hatch, or be to large for the columbian to pass if she is the female.

please stp all this hybrid talk, arent the argentine crosses bad enough

I am not "trying" to breed them but was wondering if it were possible because I have them housed together. I feel if they are going to breed it will be on their own, not by me making them. I believe they are very beutiful as well but who am I to stop them if they breed on their own. I was just asking this question so I could know if I should expect anything harmful.

I'm not a breeder and don't really intend to be. And from what I have seen of the other hybrids, I believe them to all be beutiful creatures for the most part. And of course anyone can tell if the hybrid was forced, which I dont believe in, but if they bred together on their own, that would be different. icon_wink.gif

levi it wouldnt be a waste. just cause u think so. i love the look of both and i soon will have a an arg. and i have thought about it as well.. not trying to breed them. just house them together.. but the difference for me is that my colombian is about 2 at 2 foot long and the arg im getting is about 2 and at 2 foot long as well so i will see how it goes with letting them meet when i get them. if they dont like each other they both will get their own cage and ill get each of them a mate. but i hope i can get mine to like each other at least

I'm big on hybrids of any kind.....always have been as I'm fascinated by genetics. You'd be surprised at what can cross that most people think is impossible.
Most hybrids are not forced anything but critters that breed naturally. Artificial insemination is not used very often to make hybrids. : )

Hmmmmm....I don't think the columbian female would have eggs that are too big. Seems to me she would have the size of eggs her body would normally produce.....no matter who dad was. Ever see the size difference between a 14 hand mare and 16 hand stallion?.....or an 800lb cow and 2000lb bull? NORMALLY, the female produces a baby according to her size, even if it will grow to be very large as an adult....and that's a baby not an egg.

I have chickens....each hen tends to produce the same size and shape of egg every day. Big rooster, little rooster....the eggs stay the same. : )

A male columbian to a female argentine would probably work.
