I have a Columbian black and white (Joanna) that has been acting a little weird lately. I have had her for 8 years. The first thing that caught my attention was the fact that she dug a burrow and slept for weeks on end. She had never done that before. icon_confused.gif She also has refused to eat for the last couple of weeks. She now has stopped sleeping for weeks on end, but is now extremely sluggish and seems extra lazy. She also still refuses to eat. She also has been drinking a ton of water!! I spoke with the local reptile dealer and he said she was hibernating. I then spoke with my uncle who is a Vet, he has some experience with reptiles, and he said she may have reached sexual maturity and may be holding eggs.

Is there any one out there who can shed some light on my situation? I have no clear answer for what to do or what is wrong with my tegu. Any advice or info is much appreciated.

Thanks,
Steve

I have a col. b/w also, she is with me for 3 yrs. she has been known to sleep for a week tops and not eat for maybe 2 weeks. colombians don't hibernate. I am not a vet, but I have alot of reptile experience and it sure does sound like eggs icon_razz.gif

Hi and welcome aboard! What about temperatures? Maybe it's too cold for her so yeah, her instinct tells her to hibernate although she is a Columbian. I'm not experienced with eggs but dont they need a male to get them? I know iguanas dont need one, they just lay eggs but not tegus. icon_confused.gif
