I thought it would be cool to see how many people still have tegus in hibernantion. I see alot of people that are impatient so lets see who else is waiting on a sleeping tegu.

My Zeus is still sleeping, too.I read on here before that when they are hibernating you shouldn't have the basking light up because the metabolism would keep going and since they haven't been eating it would kill them.I'm leaving my lights of until he comes out.I was thinking to wait until end of March and than I'll check on him just to make sure that he is ok.I know I shouldn't be doing that but I'm getting worried.

damn well mine is up bit i think its cause he is in the repti room that doesnt drop below 65-70 at night, and up to 80s during the day. he is also in a cage with my other tegu so that would be another reason hes not sleeping _________________ 0.1.0 Colombian Tegu

well its about thw time theyare getting up and if you have the lights on now I think they will be alright, I can understand if you left them on during the whole hibernation but warming up the cage now might send them the message that its time to come out. Bert did telll me with some tegus the biological clock is so strong that they will not come out even if its warm because past generations may have seen warmer periods early followed by some harsh conditions that might have killed them so they have evolved not to get up early. survival of the fitest

I have to agree with this based on my little experience with mine. Heat doesn't seem to alter their drive for hibernation. At least not with some.
I live in the Phoenix area too, so it's not like we have a particularly cold winter apart from 1 or 2 weeks in January. If heat were a factor, I think he would have woken up several months ago since it's been warm (mid 70s) in the animal room for a while.
