I've considered this. I have been giving him quite a bit of fruit of late. I'm cutting back right now to see if it changes the poop consistency. Thanks.

I agree with Ben3233. You definitely want to keep the veggie fruit diet in balance with the meats. I would alternate between meats and veggies or fruits. My joanna used to get diarrhea from too much fruits and veggies. I could be wrong in saying this, but I tend to give my tegus more meats including crickets and meals worms, than veggies and fruits. It seems to keep the pooping more consistent and normal looking. Joanna eventually got to the point that she wouldn't even eat veggies anymore.
Good luck, I hope this helps.
Steve
What's being forgotten here is diarrhea is a symptom and not a disease. While it can be caused by excessive high water content vegetation (it really isn't THE fruit, it's more how much water is in it) in the diet, it can also be caused by other improper husbandry; incorrect temperatures; parasites; viral, bacterial or fungal infection; a simple change in the diet (frequently seen when changing from a rodent based to a chick based diet); dairy product; ingestion of too large a meal; lack of secure hiding place; feeding dog food, chicken parts, organ meats or other meat products, etc.
However, tegu feces are also typically loose in comparison to most other lizards. If it's an acute condition, I wouldn't be too concerned. A chronic condition, however, you should seek out appropriate veterinarian guidance instead of just assuming it is 'the fruit'.

Hi Ricardo. We just took Leonidas to the vet because he had diarrhea for one week and I got very worried. The vet sad that he had a bacterial infection.I don't know if it was from feeding him to much of the salmon that one day or what it was.We got some meds for him and he told us to feed him some chopped up dried dog food and some light chicken, rice and oatmeal for puppies caned dog food for a few day ( we gave him some of our dogs dog food,Nutro Max).He loved it and the stool is fine now.I know it wasn't from any fruit or veggies because Leonidas doesn't want to eat any of it yet not even when I hide it in the lean ground turkey.

I am a little worried as Louie is more often or not soft/loose and more or less always has been since we have had him. The only times is generally isn't, is if he has had quite a few locust or crickets instead of meat. But he has really gone off crickets and now really only eats the odd red grape here and there daily then either raw chicken fillet or turkey mince with veg rolled inside and then every 10 days or so he has a hard boiled egg and once a week a couple of pinkies. I figured this was quite balanced but then I panic when I read these kind if posts.
He seems really healthy, he sheds well and his skin and eyes are bright and shiny but I am worried now that I should be concerned about his stool _________________ 1.0.0 Louie Our Red Argentine Tegu
