heres a few pictures of what my enclosure looks like after i took some time to figure out how i was going to choose items and were they were going to be placed without making it all clumped up, and beleive me he truelly loves his new place,
you,ll notice theres his hide on the left made out of a tortoise hide which has the think twigs with metal inserted through all of the twigs , so it can be bent to shape, all covered with plastic leaves and sprayed on a daily bases, spraying on these plastic leaves means his hide is always humid, and without making the dirt stick to him, these are ideal for what i wanted in the tank,
and in the middle of the tank theres a plant pot, with more plastic leaves, and inside that plant pot is water with a fogger, which over gets fogged every so often.
further along is his pathing slab with fits perfectly in the corner and is most certainly long enough and thick enough for him to bask on in the high 105 temps, and at night is still nice and warm for him to lay on, right next to his basking spot is him bath were if he feels like hes had too much sun and wants a bath only has to walk a few inches to have a soak, making it look nice and habitat for him, with a few logs to lay around as his little privacy spot,
and i was having a long think about how i was going to remove stale smells in the enclosure from the heat build up and the muck my tegu will leave during the days hes chilling about, and so i decided to attach an 80mm computer fan to the top right corner of the outside of my tank, on a 12v power supply, which instead of having the air pulled from the tank, i have had it so it delivers new fresh air inside the tank , with the fan in there it circulates the atmosphere for the tegu to breathe nice air on a 12hr bases without having to breathe horrible smells, and since building this the way i have and adding the fan in there also, my tegu has come out every day all day, and loves every munute of it. before i had this tank i had a 4ft long tank, by 1ft back and 1ft high, basically with his hide in there on 1 side and the basking spot on the other he never came out as there was just no room what so ever for him, he wasnt happy and was hissing at me ... he,d never come out to me or even eat. since hes been in his new home hes eaten well and even caught him having a bath earlier whilst asleep,
hope you guys and girls like it,
dave

thanks, its my first time ever building a new tank, and i think it went ok,the hardest part was thinking how to arrange things, and i suppose it just came into play, and i think it works great, making sure i had the full tank siliconed and varnished for waterproof protection, the first day he went in there he spilled water through excitement, glad i spent that extra few days with the brush , lol hes settleing in just fine,
with the levels of humidity they need the silicone and water proofing are a must i have a red so it is a nightmare very moist but his shed comes of like melted butter
im just uplaoding a video it isnt the best quality as i had the wrong settings on on my mobile to produce the best quality, but ill have it up in a jiffy, just uploading it now, were he,s layed on his slab with a dead chick, after already feeding him 2 chicks, i decided to attempt him with a 3rd but unlucky enough with my video phone out , he must of known he was being recorded and decided not to eat it, aw well, but here you,ll see how healthy he is
yer he is a a nice size, he loves chicks, i tempted him with a frozen rat the other day, i defrosted it , placed it into some boiling water, for 10 mins, then offered him it, he took it straight away, theres not much meat on chicks, so i think he was really happy with the meat on that rat,
crickets havent got nothing on them for the tegu to get to a nice size, id start buying frozen pinkies,or the ones a little bigger, feed him a few each week, like 2 days out of 7, as these can be dusted, when you get them make sure you defrost these in boiling water for roughyl 5-10 minutes, that way when he sees it, its still nice and warm, and should eat it straight away, he,ll soon start shwoing signs of growth, and try feeding him a scotch egg, mine eats the meat on the outside plus the full egg in the middle, he should just chew through the egg eating bits at a time, feeding them meals like this will pay of in the long run, as he,ll get good levels of of protein from the egg, and enough from the pinkies too, mine doesnt really like fruit but some vary from others, as i said mine ate a full rat once it was left in boiling water for a few minutes, he even gave a massive yawn afterwards, he enjoyed his meal, htne layed under his light to abosorb the light to digest his meal,
yer i put some locusts in his tank the other day, the large ones with wings, and he hasnt even had any of them, some are just crude to others on there items of food, he dint attempt to go for one but it flew away to the other side, and since then not even a sniff, they even lay on his wilst hes layed under his light and doesnt even bother him, ill be giving him a bath tomorrow, and attempt him with some strawberries, see how he goes,i havent gone down the road to feeding him live mice, and dont think i would stomach it really, even though itll teach him to hunt for his food, and stop being lazy at times, they have to get excercise some way.its still a little too cold for him to go outside as yet, but theres a massive field behind were i live so he should enjoy that on his lead, well hoping , fingers crossed,
