Shedding Question

So my tegu's are finally shedding for the first time since I bought them both like 3 months ago. my questions is, in a perfect world is the shed suppose to be one solid peace like snake skin or is it normal for lots of mini pieces all over to be broken up and slowly fall off here and there? how long should a typical shed session last a day few days week month? How can i help them with shedding other than a warm bath? Does that shed spray truly help? What exactly does it do to "help them" shed faster.

well my red tegu is sheding for the first time and it came off in like to big peices but the toes took another day now he just has some on his tail. if the humidity is up and your tegu's got rocks and things to scratch on he should be fine. ocean side, i'm from san diego..

Hi Knight05, it is as jose2187 said above. if it is coming off in small pieces here and there you have to recheck your husbandry or what you are feeding him/her.
in the meantime you can use cod liver oil.

It's very important to keep the cage humidity over 70%. Some people try to soak them with water and other similar things when they see they have a bad shed. That won't help though, since they dry up after just a little while and you're back at square one. They would need a humid place 24hrs a day. Try moist their enclosure at least once a day while shedding, and if you see the cage dries up then spray again. Good luck and keep us posted if your having any problem

I guess I need to get something else than a water bottle then because my cage is lik e7X3X3 and I spray the hell out of that thing and I can't seem to get the humidity over 50% no matter how much i spray i think the 250 watt bulb is just kicking too much heat and dries it all

hey i too had a 250 bulb it burnt all my humidity i went to 150 and check this out i use this to mist my cage it cost 8 bucks at homedepot

Since you have such a big enclosure try looking at home depot or other stores for a humidifier that you can set the humidity on.I found one that you can set on what humidity it suppose to be on and it tells you what the humidity is on right now.If it get below what you set it on it will turn on and bring up the humidity again.I found it at red bargain barn for $40.

Thx guys i love you, jose I actually bought one of those from home depot right before I read this post how funny is that. Now that I dont give myself blisters using a lame spray bottle I'm good. I just turn the lights off for about 20 minutes, spray the hell out of the cage nice and damp and once the humidity jumps to about 90% i turn it back on again and repeat as neccesary. My tegu's are nocturanal 100% anyways so they won't even get a chance to come out and see how nice it feels till about 10 pm tonight.

Only downside is all this moisture is making my stick on tile slowly peel off the walls sigh.

they are the best deal, you go to a pet store and get a lame spray bottle for 10 bucks or you canget this rig for 8 and have presurized mist to last a while, you don't even need to fill up often.

ya i used mine today used about 1/3 of a gallon sized bottle. Sprayed it real nice to boost the humidity. it went from about 40% to 75% which I'm told is ideal. So I'm pleased it wasn't 8 bucks though it was like 13 for mine =/ Damn california and your nazi prices!!

Nazi terminology is from PC gaming, just like "noob" for those who know so no offense. Jose- I should of gone to sports arena since my dad lives down there and I was just there yesterday but I figured all home depot's had the same prices since they're all linked together *sigh* oh well it's only 5 bucks.

Something I do to boost humidity quickly is take out a couple quarts of the mulch and soak it in hot water for 5 minutes or so, then wring it out and spread it out. The whole cage mists up and the humidity climbs crazy fast.
