I have a 3ft plus bw argentine that i got a month ago. When I first got her she ate a pile of crickets and superworms, but now will only eat fruits and veggies. If i mix worms in her dish she will pick through and only eat her favorites. Any ideas or is this okay for her.

First I would like to welcome you to the Tegu forum family.Sorry that I can't help you on that.I have the same problem with one of my arg. bw.Tegu ( I have two ).The first one I got him in October 07 and he didn't hibernate and he eats almost every thing but the second one that we got in December started to hibernate in January. When we first got him he ate lean ground turkey and grapes and crickets and super worms. Now since he is not hibernating any more he will not eat anything but fuzzies.I would like to know, too, why my Zeus will not eat any thing else.Don't worry canadiantegu some one on here will help you ( us ).Every one on her is very friendly and helpful.Good luck with your Tegu.
thank you for your reply. I just wish she would eat more but it does seem like she is trying to hibernate. If I wake her she will eat her salad and play for a few minutes, but then it is back to sleep. She is still very thick so she cant be starving and she was checked for parasites the week I picked her up.

Louie will not touch crickets now, it has got to the point where a couple have been in his tank for over a week and it is like he is keeping them for pets
When we first had him he loved crickets and locusts but slowly he has gone off them and will now only eat turkey mince, chicken fillet, fuzzies, boiled egg and a selection of fruit (veg needs to be hidden in his mince to ensure consumption!!)
They get spoilt I think, but I figure as long as his diet is balanced he should be ok and when he feels like it he will catch the odd locust here and there
And with regard to the sleeping well next to eating it does seem to be a Tegu's favourite pastime!!!! _________________ 1.0.0 Louie Our Red Argentine Tegu
