Ok, so I read recently that some people heard and were a bit anxious about the meal/superworm myth.
Myth: I have to crush or cut the head of meal/superworms before I give them to my reptiles because if not, they are going to eat the stomach of my herps.
This is a Myth, do not believe it.
Here are some reason why:
1- When your Tegu is going to eat the worm, he/she will bite him several time, crushing and killing the superworm most of the time.
2- Inside the Tegus stomach, there is some natural acid, that will digest and kill the worm.
3- There is also no air in the stomach. The air and food takes two different path. The air goes into the trachea to the lungs. The food goes through the Esophagus to the stomach. So how could a half crush/dead superworm, could live somewhere where there is 0% of oxygene, being digest at the same time?
So finally,
1- Does a superworm bite? Yes.
2- Does his bite his painful? No, almost painless.
3- Could it eat the animal stomach from the interior? No, except if somebody show me proof.
