...............but he desparetly needed a new one as he could barely get under the old one as he has grown so much since we first had him and he literally was getting to the point when he stood up to turn round he took the hide with him which was not good.
So we bought him a new one which is like a natural bark arch, but since we have put it in there this afternoon he has refused to eat and just keeps digging where the old one was or laying there looking at me as if to say 'What the hell have you done'
Will he ever get used to it as I don't want him to get all confused and unsettled _________________ 1.0.0 Louie Our Red Argentine Tegu

you are very welcome, I am always here to help.
p.s if he is not eating it is because you have put something new to him in his environment, once he realizes its a permanent addition everything will go back to normal.

Thanks Guys
I think I get more stressed than Louie then I overcompensate and try and help him out which irritates him more
He at the moment is peacefully sleeping buried in his substrate!!!! So much for his new hide eh _________________ 1.0.0 Louie Our Red Argentine Tegu

another thing too when the hide is to cold or moist sometimes my tegus will sleep in the mulch until they find it to there liking, it shows that you care about your animals, don't stress to much they are tuff and will be fine

Yeah don't worry too much. I recently took the plastic out of the bottom of my cage (stupid idea in the first place. Tegu nails + plastic = confetti!) and in doing so I also moved his hide 6 inches to the right. He got all huffy about it and scratched things around and tried to put things back where he wanted them but it must be a slow process because he has been burrowing in random places now. He goes into the hide and then comes back out like "now something just isn't right." I figure he'll get used to it or move things back!

I don't know why but Leonidas just used his hide box for just a few days and than never went back in it.He always digs in to the mulch when he goes to sleep.I did use the hide box as a hommock for him.I turned it up side down and placed it on a log.He loves it.You can see some pics of that in my gallery.
My little tegu doesn't use the hide either. I left the cloth reptile bag in there on the day I got her and she seemed to like to lay on it so I placed it in the basking area. Now she uses that for her hide! She burrows under the mulch, underneath what I refer to as her "blanket." She loves that thing, shes like a toddler with his security blanket. She basks on top of it and sleeps underneath it! So much for the hide, everyone thinks its cute though.

Thanks everyone I am now confident that Louie will get used to it over the next few days, although I swear this morning he keeps giving me evil looks!!!! _________________ 1.0.0 Louie Our Red Argentine Tegu
