live mice is a bda idea becuase some tegus get feeding response and will target moving things like "fingers after they have had to hunt, your tegu would probably crush your finger if he was to bite it, thats my fear
no theres a big vent in the back of the tank, at the top in the center, that 80mm pc fan is to pull fresh air in so circulate the stale heat, that produces smells, also this works well with my fogger, as these 2 are timed together on a timer, as the fogger turns on the fan turns on, blowing fog around the tank raising humidity levels to a certain standard of around 70% perfect for my tegu.
am i sensing theres anything wrong with the way i have this.
nah that looks great. I just couldn't tell if there were any other vents. I like the fan w/ fogger idea. Very cool and it looks great. Did you put the whole thing together yourself?
every little detail mate, i just kept thinking that having just a vent at the back wouldnt cure the stale heat and the smell build up, and that it wouldnt just go out of the vent on its own.so i thought of this idea of having fresh air pulled in and it worked great, every time i open the glass doors, i pop my head in and the smell is clean and fresh. just like a normal hot day in the sun,having clean air constantly circulating the tank and being sent out of the vent at the back works great.....its just like a breeze in the sun to my tegu, not too strong not too soft, perfect mate. hope more people think of this and make there tanks breathe easy.
Hey dave, what did you use for your door/window? I have been up and down the lowes aisles and can not find anything that works. The closest thing i found was a 32x13 window and that is 100 bucks. I want something bigger, I love the way you have yours! Thanks
what i did in the end after serious thinking was instead of going the whole yard and buying new sheeted glass, measuring 5ft long by 2 ft high, basically 2 sheets 2.5ft long and 2 ft high,i decided to go with me reusing the glass on my old tank, which was 4ft x (2ft long each piece and around the 2 ft mark high), i knew this wouldn't fit the new tank so i decided to make a sort of picture frame 3d effect on the front of the tank,and shortening the sides by 1/2 ft each end with a panel of wood to shrink the 5ft gap to a 4ft gap, once this was done, i trimmed a long sheet of wood top and bottom roughly 20 mm thick x2 and placed 1 at the top of the tanks front and one at the bottom of the tank, were the sliding glass would go,i then bought 2x 1meter black runners and siliconed them onto the 20mm trimmed pieces of wood,on the top and on the bottom, and they fitted perfectly right to each end great,then i got the re-used glass , and slided them in place and what a perfect fit it was.......there was no forcing glass into the runners like some tanks you buy, you can imagine if the way i did this with the picture frame effect, it just got inserted at one end of the tank and slide all the way to the other end,after this was done, i got the side runners cut and ready to fit to the tank, i siliconed the top and bottom of each one so that it would bond to the trimmed 20mm wood and against the front panel of wood also, did this at each end left it to dry and wallah , we have a 3D effect door easy to open and clean.
in my honest opinion i wouldnt use anything other thatn glass,perspex is for 1, flexi the longer the sheet is, i remeber walking around b&q basically the uk,s walmart lol, and having 2 sheets of perspex in hand and it wasnt cheap , and i thought it,d do i even had all the runners i needed and 2 screw in door handles for easy sliding, which was roughly at a estimate of about £100 basically $200 ish and i thought blumming heck that much just for this, then i thought i,ll re-use my glass and make it fit to the tank, and im glad i did too , saved alot of cash and frustration, after i built the tank i saw a glass company place a few weeks later who deals with big bulk glass and i came to the comment on how mucvh glass was, and he asured me if ,id of gone to see him he would of supplied me an 8ft by 4tf sheet for £30 basically $50 a thought wow,people seem to think glass is expensive , but if you shop about you,ll be amazed at just how cheap this is....shop about buddy, not in a shop itself but a glass place somebody who makes things out of glass , such as glass cabinats vivariums etc, im sure they,ll supply you a nice sheet for a cheap price
