Check out my new setup for my tegu, i think its great.

vision

Im in a dorm and the size is pretty big for my small room but its worth it, its a Vision 400 with pull out drawers underneath to boost it up and add storage for mulch bags, mist bottles food, etc. There is a air filter/ionizer in between the 2 storage units to help keep the air fresh. Let me know what you think

Visions are hard to keep tegus in because they don't have a substrate dam to keep the substrate out of the runners. You should have at least 8 to 10 inches of substrate at your shallowest for the tegus to burrow in. Tegus love to dig and without this the enviroment can get stale. You could get a piece of plywood or PVC board to made a dam inside the enclosure, that may help a bit.

The size will work for right now, but keep in mind an Argentine black and white tegu can reach huge sizes with a year or so. They grow rapidly. Any enclosure should be at least as deep (front to back) as the tegu is long and twice as long (left to right). So a 3 foot tegu should have a 3 foot by 6 foot enclosure. They should be tall enough (top to bottom) to allow for a foot of substrate and a foot and a half between the basking light and substrate.

My only other concern would be the stands everything is on. I'd not trust anything with slim folding legs, especially two stands as one will always tend to move the opposite direction of the other when bumped only slightly causing the entire thing to come crashing down.

Thank you, yea the stands are a little wobbly but i try not to nudge them too much to keep them stable, ill be moving dorms in a few weeks so it will be set up differently there, i also take my tegu outside to walk and bask regularly, i dont know if i will be able to accomodate the space needed for it to dig, hopefully it will be ok

You should have plenty of room for the depth icon_smile.gif. I used the big vision cages. Make it deeper toward the rear of the vision. If there is only 4 inches to the top of the cage that's fine, they will enjoy it! Do what you can with the nile monitor as it needs to get out of there asap! You will NOT have the room for that nile (if fed, and goes properly) in 1 year. The door is not nearly enough room. I'd recommend finding a new home for it. Good luck either way!

Not likely....the nile isn't even worth 1/2 the value. If you need to give it a new home, mine is open and willing. If for some reason I can't keep it I know plenty who would take it here in South Fla.

Its not about giving it a home, i could keep it if it came down to it, i dont want to lose all the money that it represents, i cant just give it away. I traded an adult female bearded dragon for it b/c the dragon wasnt selling and i thought the nile was cool, but then it started spraying and i brought i back to the guy but he didnt have room for it anymore, so he said i could take the my old dragon and the nile to the show and see which one would get a trade, or trade them both and bring him back something like a tegu. If anything ill have to give the nile and pay money for a tegu, but let the nile take some off the price of the tegu.

The tegu has plenty of substrate, and the nile is in that cage temporarily until i can do something with it, and it gets to chill in the vision cage regularly to get heat and water, Also i live in a dorm if you dont know what that is its a room the size of a closet to fit 2 people in together, so not much room is left for it to be on the floor (since the vision opens through the side and not through the top) also i would like to see my tegu and be able to look at it without crawling on the floor, and also the vision cages are quite light... you can hold one of them in each hand easily. If you would like to offer to buy the nile then you can have him, ill be attending a show in tampa this weekend where hopefully he can yeild a decent trade.

You live in a dorm you say...with little to no room...
Do you know how large those animals get??
And when you dont sell the nile in Tampa...how long will his health be compromised in order for you to get enough money?
The nile didnt chose to be your pet, you chose him to be your pet. He can't get out of his cage and search for a better life.
Therefor you are responsible for its well being.
He gets his turn in the vision you tell us, but do you know the nile needs the warmth in order to have a deasent working digestive system? Not even thinking about staying healthy etc...
At this moment your much closer to animal cruwelty as to animal wellfare.

And on the picture the substrate of the tegu is not enough...so I supose you have filled it more after taking the picture?
And isnt setting up the vision tank stable so it wont tip over or anything that may cause the tegu injuries, more important then you getting to look at your animal?

I think you should reconsider what your doing as you are compromising the health of animals for your benefit.. ..

Im not comprimising the health of anything, when the nile doesnt sell or trade in tampa then he will most likely go back to the store, and i dont think you need to tell me how large the get i know the figures, my old roommates B&W is almost 4 foot already and ours are sisters. He lets his walk freely around his dorm which i will probably do next semester. Also yes there is plenty of substrate in the tegu cage, and a 150 watt spot light on the nile, stop being so quick and judgemental, i took that picture within 5 minutes of setting the tank up, which is why there wasnt enough mulch and no light on the nile. And yes it is plenty stable and wont tip over, the tank is alot lighter than it looks. When I got it I was so excited to get my vision tank in and wanted to show the people who i thought would say nice tank, but instead you barrage me with accusations of being cruel to animals, you should really try to take a step back and analyze what you say before you hurt someones feelings, especially you as a moderator

Well you asked what I thought...
And you got an answer
You asked me to judge your setup. And I did.
And I think me as moderator can say what I think of things as much as anyone else around here if the post does not contain any faul language etc etc.
Believe me I did think before posting. And checked wheter or not you posted an answer to my points already.

And in turn now I ask of you to not take this like I was saying your a no good reptile keeper. I am stating the facts as I see them.
You can either agree or not.
That is the whole point of forums like these next to asking advice and sharing an interest.

But you can not honestly think that the nile is in a good cage can you?

http://thetegu.com/postp4047.html#4047 theres what i think of the nile..

i duoubt you will make money on a reptile show, unless you tell the new owner that that is just the cage you move it in.......... in other words.. lie..

I for one dont give a rats ass about someones feelings if they ask replies and dont get what they hoped for icon_smile.gif

Ive deleted the pictures since everyone focused on the nile and gave all these opinions that i didnt ask for, i asked concerning my cage and got all this stuff about the nile which has fine conditions, a water bowl, hide spot and a warm light. The reason it wasnt showed in the picture was because that wasnt what i was pointing out, i was just happy about finally getting my new cage in, and hadnt even set up most of the rest (ie. mulch, lights, etc) so thanks for your opinions.

And as for the show i wont be bringing him in in a big cage like that, the nile will come in inside a custom travel bag with newspaper and breathing holes
