Ok hope these q's aint stupid but Im picking up my new tegu soon its a 6month old arg,b+w its around 16" and Im just wondering how much to feed it during the day without over feeding it,also is spraying the tank a few times a day the best way to keep it humid enough,these prob sound like stupid questions but I just said id ask as ill be collectin it in a few days

Hey whats going on! Congrats on getting a new tegu. Dont think the questions are stupid, I just got a tegu at the beg of the month and had similar questions.
With feeding, mine is very good about eating until she is full and then stops no matter how much is left. I feed mine everyday, usually about 3 or 4 in the evening, gives her time to digest before lights go out.
With the humidity, that is one issue I have, I have to constantly watch mine. A member(Joe) of this forum suggested a sprayer from a hardware store that I went and bought. It has made my life so much easier, I have to spray anywhere from two to four times a day to keep the humidity up. As long as your humidity is up you don;t need to spray but I spray anytime I see it drop below 60%. I am going to build a new cage soon, the fact that hers is only partially covered on top, is where all my humidity escapes! Goodluck with your new tegu!! and dont be afraid to ask any questions, everyone here will agree that there is no such thing as a stupid question, especially if you are a new tegu owner.

I personally found a humid hide to work best for me. Spraying a lot made the inside of the glass dirty and not very nice to look through. I was also using a cage with an open top....very hard to keep the humidity over 30% I got a small plastic container (one with a lid) and cut a hole about 1/2 to 3/4 of the way up, filled the container with damp substrate and it stayed at 70% or over. You don't have to add water very often. When mine were going through a big growth spurt....they were shedding every 5-8 days.....and they did not have a problem.

Hi Sweenox.Welcome to the Tegu forum family.Congrats on your new Tegu.If you have a Big Lots ( store name ) you can get a 2L pump spray bottle for $5.A nother thing you can do is get a plexi glass from Home Depot or Lowes and cut out some holes for your lights and put it on top of the enclosure.With the plexi glass you don't have to worry about it getting to hot in case it is to close to the lights.When you spray your mulch down make sure the mulch is moist to the touch not wet.If you want to you can also get a little hand rake to stir up the mulch.What I do is one day I spray down the entire mulch.Next day I just spray the top,next day I stir it all up and than start from the beginning.That way the mulch will not starting to rot when it stays on the bottom for so long.I also recommend to feed your Tegu in a separate clean bin.Here are some infos that you might want to check out.Good luck with him/her.Did you pick out a name yet ?
