my tegu was using all coconut fiber bedding then i added 16 liters of cypress mulch, and now he loves to dig and burrow.

i'd say thats a plus.

Erin, cypress mulch is far better as an aid in holding the humidity. I mix it all up with about a 1/3 top soil.

when coconut fiber dries up it gets dusty. you have to really soak it and you don't want puddles.

I make it thick enough for them to borrow under and be able to hide. mine are at least two feet deep.

you don't have to mix cypress mulch with anything.

the cypress does help the humidity, must be the surface area thing.

the mix works much better, got my hygromiter to hit 65% last night (i still don't trust it)

I love cypress mulch, holds moisture really well. My tegu just buries right down in it inside her hide and other random spots. With a lid on my tank now, I have been able to keep the humidity pretty constant.
