Intelligence has nothing to do with ability to survive. Nor has it anything to do with making love rather than reproducing, looking after babies or anything like that.
In terms of survivability, nothing beats bacteria - single celled organisms were the first creatures on the planet, they're still here today and they'll still be here long after we're gone. Guess what? No brains. Even among the vertebrates, dinosaurs ruled the earth for 180 million years. I'm willing to bet that primates (like us) are going to last that long. Even some individual species of dinosaurs are thought to have been around for up to 50 million years. Homo sapiens has been here for 100 thousand years (a small fraction of the dinosaur time) and there's no way we'll be here for another 10,000 years at the rate we are going.
Looking after babies? The Australian giant rhinoceros cockroach looks after its babies, but monitors don't. No one is claiming that roaches are smarter than monitors as far as I know. Even some birds, such as cuckoos and other brood parasites, don't look after their babies, and they're definitely much smarter than a roach.
The only real indicators of comparative intelligence are things like ability to learn new things, problem solving etc.

Despite our ignorance and inherent primate greed impelling us to destroy the world, we are the most intelligent animal on earth. There's no questioning our intelligence as a species, just our foresight.

I totally agree with that. if we are so intelligent why are we killing ourselves ? I don't understand the follow thru. _________________ 0.1.0 B/W Colombian tegu

We're intelligent, but deep down inside we're still just another animal with a thin veneer of 'civilisation'. Our base primate instincts are to grab what we want or need now - it's not inherent in our nature to worry about the future. Consequently, there's a long history of mankind moving into a new area, causing mass extinction, destroying the environment and then either moving on or dying out. Unfortunately it's now happening at a global level, not just on some remote island, so moving on isn't an option.

well. ok., but I think we are largely responsible for our demise now due to greed. _________________ 0.1.0 B/W Colombian tegu
