A question for breeders

Are baby tegus ordinarily tame? I know even a modest breeder of tegus might have 20o or more tegus every breeding season, it would seem difficult to give each one of the little guys enough handling time to get them calm. How do y'all do it, or are they sweet natured as tiny babies?

I've never bred tegus, but from my personal experience and everything I've read, they generally seem to be pretty wild as hatchlings. They generally seem to tame down very easily though

Depends on what kind of tegus you are talkin about. Argentine tegus are over all pretty melow, even when young. Columbians seem to be wild and need some attention and time to tame. just my experience though.

I have found my baby B&W tegus to be flighty and nervous. This is as it should be. At baby size, they are prey to everything out there. As they grow bigger, they become more predator than prey, and they tend to be far more mellow. In any case, the more you work with them, the better they should behave. Personally, I leave my babies alone as they grow for the most part, and I begin to work with them when they are about one and a half to two feet long. Anyway, nervous is normal.
