I remember Bert telling me that Pampas grass is the natural vegetation associated with these guys in the wild. It is a tall dense decorative grass that tegus burrow into and also use to hide themselves as they bask. It is readily found in garden centers and is a hearty grower. There are numerous cultivated varieties, and you should have no trouble finding one suited to your zone. Post some pictures when you are done, would love to see it.
