I have a 11 month old arg b/w ( Tango) and a 3 month old red (Luna). I am trying them out on fruits and they both like peaches but hardly try anything else. And in consulting a person I work with they suggested me to try them on a stage 2 and 3 baby food. Since it has all of the vitamins and hardly any sugar is there anything wrong with trying them out on it. Has anyone else tried this?

Welcome to the Tegu forum family.Yes,you can try giving them the baby food.I haven't tried the fruit yet but when I had to force feed my Tegus ( one ate some substrate and got impacted and didn't eat for 5 days.I took him to the vet and he told me to give Leonidas some chicken and turkey/gravy baby food ) ( Zeus just got out of hibernation not to long a go and he was very thin and he wouldn't eat and I was worried that he would get dehydrated so I force fed him with that baby food, too, and he is doing great now ) I had to give them some baby food.Try to find some organic one.You also can try to make little meat balls out of lean ground turkey and put some different fruit in side the meat balls or stuff some fuzzies with fruit ( put some fruit in a blender and get a syringe without the needle from your pharmacy and than put the fruit in side the fuzzie or mouse ).Hope that helps.Good luck. What do you feed your Tegus if you don't mind me asking.Do you give them some calcium and vitamine powder ?

The 11 month old eats almost anything you give him. We have fed him broiled fish (he loves salmon) I know he shouldnt but when he sees that we have it he runs up and jumps up and tries to eat it. It is quite funny. But thats only rarely since it is not good for him.He likes peaches. When offered peaches and other fruit randomly on a plate he will only eat the peaches. But he is on a main diet of large mice. He is feed a regularly at a specific time and we have just started to feed him out of the cage. The baby red mainly eats pinkys and small mice. We are breeding a few mice so the pinkies get bigger as she does. But she is finicky when she eats. She is also eating superworms and crickets but she doesnt really like them.

Hello and welcome! Tango is an excellent name btw! When my Tango was young he almost would turn his nose up at fruits. Now he's the opposite and eats the fruits first and then the meat. I gave up on giving him fruit when he was younger and stuck with mice and other meats. I tried to trick him by putting pieces of fruit under/on top/inside of the mice but he wouldnt eat the ones tainted by fruit. I would still offer it occasionally but he refused constantly. Now he eats peaches, pears, mango, guava, bananas, strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and ground raw turkey. Just give it some time, maybe try tricking yours. Good luck!

I also have a red (Luna) she is little but i have been reading that they need fruits for their skin. Should she be eating fruits at this young or should I be worrying?

It actually worked he loves it. Oddly he really likes the stage 3 strawberrys and bananas. Its kind of cute he likes it all up. Now whenever he sees his plate and me opening the jar he runs out and looks up at me like "Can you hurry up please" he is so cute. If anyone has babies he is eating the entire jar of 3s. I have given him a variety of flavors the only one he hasnt liked so far is carrot, apple, mango. I know the strawberry banana isnt good constantly but i swear its like a treat. I will be posting a video of him eating stage 3 spaghetti and meat sauce. And him and his manners( he wipes his mouth when he is done) I will keep everyone updated!

icon_biggrin.gif I'm glad that it worked.I'm glad that I don't have to force feed Zeus for a while now. When he first got out of hibernation he wouldn't eat any thing ( so like I sad in the other post I force fed him ) than he started to eat pinkies and fuzzies and that's all he wanted.Yesterday he ate some super worms and crickets.Today he ate some chopped up chicken breast with green bean ( baby food ),really fine chopped up carrots and organic apple sauce and calcium & vitamine powder. He loved it.Leonidas licked it and walked away.So I just gave him the chopped up chicken breast and the powders.

He eats it often. When we dont have any mice we give it to him. But we have the baby food on the bottom of a tv stand and he has started going to it and then looking up at me. Thats when i know he is hungry. The red doesnt even like the plate! I put the plate in there with a mouse and she doesnt eat it but as soon as i take the plate away she eats it. She is really finicky. And he does wipe is face all over the carpet. I call it his good manners. If you could listen to the actually non edited video on there but my boyfriend is in the background telling Tango not to. I wanted to put the actually noise in there but the godzilla song sounded better. But my mom gave me a good idea i am going to find a junk piece of carpet and feed him on that so we dont have the staining the carpet problem.

If you want to you can buy a cheep shower curtain so that way you can wipe of the food and it doesn't start to smell or have fruit flies around your house.

I tried it yesterday. I put it right outside of his enclosure doors and at first he tried to bite but after being told no he just kind of sat there. He would eat the baby food if i held it at the door or he would be half out but he would not put his back feet on it. It was quite funny. The shower curtain that i got was a white one( the clear one was 6 bucks) and my boyfriends carpet is kind of blue so it was probably intimidating. He wouldnt even come out to wander about. Which is rare because when we are home he spends 75% of his time with us out and wandering. Im going to try it again today so i will keep you posted.
