Our main goal was looking at some of the physiological changes that occur as tegus prepare for, enter, go through, and come out of hibernation. In doing so we also looked at circadian cycles through the year, overall cirnannual cycles, and thermoregulation.
Most of the research was done in south central Brazil, I'm currently in Canada (trying to get back down to Brazil).
That particular tegu died because it had a spinal deformation that left it somewhat paralyzed, it certainly had problems moving about and eating on its own. I was hand feeding it and making sure it couldn't drown in a water dish, but it had parked itself under the heat lamp one day and didn't leave. Just overheated and died.

icon_cry.gif icon_cry.gif icon_cry.gif icon_cry.gif that poor little Tegu icon_cry.gif .I hate when things like that happen. It breaks my heart. But it sounds like you did every thing you could for that Tegu.If you don't mind me asking you ( my boyfriend wants to know this ) what is your long term goal with your research and when you are done with school ? good luck with getting back to Brazil.

Hmmn, long term, that's a good question. My interests lie in the ecophysiology of reptiles and amphibians and there are several fields that I'm drawn to: thermoregulation, hibernation/aestivation, nutrition, behaviour & physiology interaction.

As for when I'm done with school, well, I kind of currently am. Just completed my masters, literally today. I had plans to go on but my backstabbing self-centered ex and her manipulative family have successfully financially ruined me so until I get that straightened away, it's pretty much impossible to continue.
