my tegu finally came in today she is about 20 inches and looks as though she just had a bad shed. so what i need to know is, how should i go about taking care of the shed. what should i feed her and how often.? i dont want to break her trust right off the bat. so i dont want to cross any lines with feeding her and soaking her etc......

Congrats on your tegu.
for a good shed it helps to keep her hide moist (not wet). and also for shedding problems use COD LIVER OIL (topical). baths are good if you have skin stuck on the toes or limbs so it does not stop the circulation resulting in loosing a limb.
this is just a temporary fix. make sure your temps and humidity level are in tact.
keep a very large water bowl big enough for him/her to get into if they want to.
here is a link to a large variety of foods & info on them for tegus
she soaked on her own in her water bowl today, whenever i would get close to the cage she would arch her back and wiggle her tail a little bit, i know this is defensive, but i dont know if its ok to pick her up when she is like this...it seems like im gonna have to in order to feed her. she's got some pretty impressive teeth, and like i said she's about 20" which doesnt intimidate me, im just scared to break her trust. so any advice in the best way to feed her and socialize with her without making her hate me?

Hi alec, I would just approach her slowly and place your hands underneath her front and back legs to bring her to the food. make a routine with her and try to keep it.
here is a very good link to read about handling reptiles:
