I just got my 1st black and white tegu "Turbo" a couple weeks ago and he (or she) has already shed twice, is that normal? how often do they normally shed, and how long should it take them to shed? Turbo seems to be shedding easily on his body, it all came off in one piece, but there is still some skin left on his tail but its only been a day. Should I be worried?

When I first got our Tegu ( one hibernated so he just shedded 2 times since Dec.07 ) Leonidas ( the one that didn't hibernated ) shedded a lot, too. That is normal. You are doing a great job with the humidity part than since he shedded that well.It is also normal for the skin of the tail to come of later. Some times it can take up to a week.Don't worry you are doing a good job with him .Oh,I'm sorry.I for got to welcome you to the tegu forum family and congrats on your new Tegu.
thanx, i feel a lot better now. P.S. Turbo has since shed the skin on his tail, pretty much all in one piece too. I am becoming obsessed with taking care of him, he is so much fun. I got him a leash and am trying to get him to go for walks. He doesnt mind wearing the leash, but he isnt that happy with walking where I want to.

Have you taking him out side yet.If not I would recommend wearing some gloves because my two Tegus a very tame but once I take them out side and they are on the ground they want to run of and when I try to pick them up they try to bite me.As soon as I pick them up they are fine ( tame ) again.Just a little warning.I hope yours doesn't do it.
actually yes, thats where he got his name!!! It was soo funny you put him outside on the ground and its like you pressed a "turbo" button cause he's gone. Thats half the reason I got the leash. Sometimes when I go to grab him he will hiss at me but he's never tried to bite.

I like the way you came up with his name.I got bit by both of my baby Tegus once ( each ).It surprised me so much that they can change there attitude like this that fast.I can take naps with them, kiss them and they never bite.I think in time they will calm down.Good luck with him.
