"Dog Tame" is more of a term of art than an actual description, and before someone writes it, I know dogs attack. I dig my Tegu, we go out with him on a leash, he roams the house and now has his "new" outdoor condo. After watching Rick's video I could not wait until Sancho climbed on me and then when he did (the first day in his outdoor pen) I was so excited. Turns out he was just using me as a ladder to try and get out. So, smart as lizards go, yes. Tame, quite. But best of all just a blast to have and learn about.

You may think your tegu was trying to use you as a way out (he could, of course), but when I have my guys out in the backyard, with me sitting in the middle, my male will seek me out and climb up on me.
As for the gators, I could sit mine in my lap (when she was small enough, up to about 5 feet - she's 250 lbs. now), and rub my hand along her non-taped mouth. Never ever taped her mouth shut.

Rick, I totally understand your working with tegus - I just love my guys to death and will always have them.

Chris

Sorry, Ben, I don't have any video yet, or a camera at this point in time. There is, however, a good pic of Mumps (our male tegu), crawling all over my girlfriend Jane in our Reptile Room in my user gallery. Look closely and you can see Marty our Burmese python watching the goings on.

New camera coming soon, with more pics as well.

Chris
